Commissary stocks most of the amenities we have outside of prison/jail. It's basically like going to 7-11, including the insane markup in the name of convenience. So long as you have money "on the books" you can buy whatever you want.
Some states/counties give you a limit on how many items you can have in your possession before it becomes listed as contraband which results in punishment like your privileges taken away.

What I just described is exactly how prison is based on my experience.
Only you sleep on a shitty mat, have to endure loud noises at random times, and the occasional manlet "Aryan" who tries to step up because he's mad his girlfriend on the outside spent their welfare check on meth instead of putting $20 on his commissary books that month.
I still live this life but everything I do is well appreciated now, more than ever, never taking it for granted.

I was at a faith based for 2 years and was in the 'honor dorm'. It wasn't so much like that for me because I worked out the gate and would be gone all day long(basically those 2 years were mostly spent out of the compound), then go to classes I signed up for. I was also a facilitator. Basically, mon-fri would fly by so quick and the weekends were spent sleeping as much as possible. I also never went to chow as I ate plenty at work yet when I did I would only go on peanut butter days; I was on the kosher diet. Looking back it could have been much much worse and, at least I, was treated fairly well all things considered, however there is no way I'm ever going through that again. I could not believe the level of incompetence I encountered there, both from staff and other inmates.
