underrated as fuck, /tv/?

Apocalypto's sets and props were faker than Waterworld's. Popeye-tier. It ruined the movie and prevents it from ever being considered a masterpiece.
>>
>>66562707
what the fuck are you talking about
>>
>>66562840
Apocalypto's fake, plastic, artificial-seeming sets and props.

Look, I love Mel Gibson as much as the next guy but this film should have been supervised by Herzog.
>>
>>66564327
I see, I don't remember seeing any problems with these things, I watched it years ago though

Do you think it could have been a real masterpiece if this was corrected?
>>
>>66562684

underrated as fuck. didn't it come out after Mel got tired of jews? it was squelched by the jewspiracy, but his best fucking work. loved it.
>>
one of the most underrated and criminally overlooked movies ever made.

mel is a GREAT director and this was standard politics taking precedent over merit; par for the course in hollywood.
>>
>>66564368
It got criticized for misrepresenting mayans.
As a mexican I don't really care, mayans back then we're savages, and now they're racists. They probably will never watch this moviem the only people that really got angry were at the time, edgy teenagers and journalists that pretended to have knowledge of the subject
>>
Was going to watch it the other night as background noise but remembered it had subtitles.

Quality movie. Very well executed but the subject matter really never grabbed me which is a shame.

This man is shitposting. I watched the Blu-Ray on a monitor about 2 feet from my nose and nothing looked fake or artificial, obviously.

Apocalypto is a fantastic film made with real love and care, but it will be snubbed forever because of Mel and the Jews.

I rewatched it last week

the only real completely SHIT and laugh out loud funny prop that took me out of the movie was the jaguar chase scene where it mauls some motherfucker and it just looks like a cheap as fuck puppet.

They have a few plasticky looking props, but nothing remotely as fucking terrible as that jaguar.

The movie came out in 2006 so of course what CGI they used still looks uncanny. Luckily they used very, very little CGI.

scene in question
>>
>>66564486

misrepresented? their society was run by death cults that routinely practiced human sacrifice and slavery of others.
>>
>>66564564
Trap was crap
Ziggurat or whatever had cartoon tier CG
Every artifice at Jaguar paw's tribe was fake as fuck

This movie had real potential to be good but the sets and effects are just really, really bad. This is one movie that could really benefit from a remake using modern technology.

JIDF pls go, you don't need to shit on Mel's legacy anymore.
>>
I have to say I was really impressed by the acting. they can't be all great so maybe Mel is a fantastic director to get it out of them. love this film

I love Mel, I really do. If I wanted to shit on him I would bring up the fact that Man Without A Face is straight-up NAMBLA propaganda and Catholic rape apologism. I really just want to discuss the fake sets of Apocalypto.
>>
>>66564815

all sets are fakes faggot thats what makes them sets
>>
>>66564839
They shouldn't look fake, though, that's the entire craft of art direction. I've never thought a Malick, Tarantino, or Herzog set looked fake.
>>
>>66564879
Look at this name-dropping. Come on senpai just give it a rest.

;_;
>>
>>66564982
Why can't he just pay for it himself? He has a billion dollars and a production company and a distribution company.
>>
As a mexican who really loves this movie I agree some of the big set pieces have aged. Nothing Lucas tier but its quite clear why most of the movie is outside the cities.

I've always wondered why Mel decided to make a movie about Mayans, specially with him being so involved in it. It's not like he just found the script and said fuck it, let's shoot it. The Passion I get but why the fuck Mayans? It also makes me kinda disappointed that he decided to make a WW2 film instead of another period piece of a long forgotten civilization.
>>
>>66564997

because jews
>>
>>66564997
No point when it's going to get papered over by the Jews. He can't make back the budget even if he goes indie. I mean this doesn't mean he WON'T do it but he's obviously hedging his bets here.
>>
>>66565039

he likes illustrating brutal oppressive societies exploiting freedom-loving family-loving societies and how they fight back... Apocalyptico and Braveheart follow that same vein... even The Passion does when you think about it
>>
Watching this film right now for film studies. Gotta say it's extremely well made. Glad i chose to watch this instead of Gladiator which will probably what the majority of my class will chose to watch.
>>
>>66565085
Crowdfunding is a thing now, buddy. If there's really an audience available he could easily make the movie risk-free without even having to dip into his own massive funds.

Make Vikings with Apocalypto-tier sets and effects and it could be done without any risk of losing money. There's no reason besides alcoholism and cult involvement that he couldn't have been doing this 5 years ago.
>>
>>66564736
Because Mayans dint sacrificed only Aztecs
