LOL no. The nature porn didn't add anything and so much of it should have been cut. Birdman's concept kept it tight, avoided it from being rambling, and added to the mentality of the main character. That was unable to be done with Revenant because Leo's performance didn't match the rambling, slap-dash nature of the establishing nature shots that composed 50% of the movie.

Yeah, I agree, there are far too few films about that era, when the Spanish were in the south the french in the north and the Anglos on east coast, but the interior of the continent was still unexplored no mans land occupied by Indians who had recently aquired horses and firearms.

The first two are about the Americas pre and post columbus, the third is a specific history of one tribe.
Also, the story of "Nigger" Britt Johnson (Google him ) would make an incredible film. It was the inspiration for classic western "The Searchers" but the real story is even better.
News flash, the majority of Oscar nominations are not actually that good. They are all pretentious bull shit stuff that wins. Of course different tastes and all, most of the time the best actor/actress nominations are pretty good.
