OMG HAHAHAHAH LOLOLOL

This show is so funny guize!!!! XDXD

DID YOU GET IT? PENGUIN PUBLISHING IS RUN BY PENGUINS!!!
>>
Why does zootopia look so shitty now?
>>
>>64749818
Because they hired Ubisoft to do the animation
>>
>>64749894
>mfw
>>
Easily the best animated show of at least the past 10 years.
>>
The animal schtick isn't supposed to be the main source of humor. It's just a cute motif that offsets the dark circumstances that Bojack finds himself in.
>>
>>64750634
Animation has become that bad?
>>
>>64751124

This.
>>
Should I watch this?
>>
>>64751124

I would swap the word 'motif' for 'distraction', and the phrase 'dark circumstances' for 'laboured melodrama' and we pretty much agree.
>>
>>64751138

We live in an era of Macfarlane reruns, so yeah.
>>
I want to fuck his deer friend.

I'm not sure what is wrong with me.
>>
>>64749702
Can you pinpoint the last time you had fun?
>>
>>64751318
Fuck yes.

Advertised as a comedy, easily one of the most realistically dark shows in animation.

Its so fucking good
>>
>>64751359

Playing Nuclear Throne 15 minutes ago.

Got a point there son?
>>

I would swap all those words for FUN
I don't expect you to know of it
>>

Whatever you need to tell yourself, kiddo.
>>
>>64751407

That wouldn't make sense.

>>64751428

Again, this makes no sense in context, I answered your question.

Enjoy your (You)s I guess. I guess enjoying animal puns and Hollywood navel gazing isn't my thing.

Maybe when you're a teenage in a couple of years you'll start reading Sartre and the show will make a little more sense to you.

>melodrama

No shit. It's fundamentally about a washed up famous person who, despite having the financial security that will stay with him until he's dead, is in crisis because he wants his life to have more meaning, but his own problems he creates continue to get in the way of his happiness.

It's meant to be melodramatic. Everyone tells Bojack to stop being retarded and fix his life, but he won't because he's a narcissistic asshole. The real drama comes every now and again when Bojack realizes that he's the one who's been destroying his life and no one else.

It's easy to pick on a show for it's weakest points, but using animal characters for running gags in a serialized show is very different from using unrelated jump cuts ad infinitum for unrelated gags in an episodic.
>>
>>64751708

Arts major ripping it apart!
>>
>>64751847

it's easy to focus on one word and ignore the other (out of two)

laboured - (especially of humour or a performance) not spontaneous or fluent.
>>
>>64749702
its a little strange that you had to go deep into season 2 to (ironically?) shitpost about this kind of joke. admittedly, its low hanging fruit, but the depression story needs it to avoid too much pretension as a """adult""" cartoon
>>
>>64751885

>arts major

It's basic literature that everybody reads in their teens.
>>
>>64751940
could you elaborate on a particular moment/storyline you found to be laboured melodrama? at a guess, its going to involve Diana
>>
I've rewatched both seasons probably 5 times now and am still catching things I missed before.

This show is so fucking good.
>>
>>64751945

Are you shitting me?

I don't see the "depression story" beyond the character saying they're depressed. The closest I've seen to depression is through Princess Carolyn.

>>64751998

I'm sure.

>>64752024

Wow! Hard question! I don't know, perhaps the way every single episode can be defined by me typing melodrama into google?

>a sensational dramatic piece with exaggerated characters and exciting events intended to appeal to the emotions.
>>
>>64749702
This show is literally not funny
>>
>>64752174

>a sensational dramatic piece with exaggerated characters and exciting events intended to appeal to the emotions

That doesn't describe the show at all.

Have you even watched it, or did you just find a youtube clip you thought was bad so you could shitpost?
>>
>>64752279

I'm up to S02E09, I'll watch it all, don't worry. I animate for a living.

Are you really trying to convince me that the old producer who's a tortoise isn't an exaggerated character? That the timid, unobtainable deer isn't an exaggerated character?

That the Oedipal daughter sex thing isn't an exciting event set to appeal to emotions? That the hackneyed drug flashbacks, the hateful parental relationship, the "foreign chicken on the run", etc, etc, etc isn't an exciting event set to appeal to emotions?
>>
>>64752174
what a uselessly broad definition, please stop posting
>>
>>64752458

No.

It's all pretty mundane and true to life.
>>
>>64752492
dam ur dum
>>
>>64752471

It's what the word means. If you need some fantastical, shrewd, perspicacious, knowledgeable and whimsical definition, perhaps looks elsewhe/r/e.
>>
>>64752609

Great retort.

One of the things that makes the show so good is how realistic it is (which is why OP is an idiot for only focusing on the animal jokes, which is only there as a ridiculous counterpoint to the more serious elements). I wouldn't call any of the situations you brought up "exciting events set to appeal to emotions".
>>
>>64752849

except it's obviously appealed to your emotions wholesale. You're defending it because it speaks to you.

Dumb cunts always argue themselves into a corner.
>>
>>64753278

>anything that speaks to you is a melodrama now

It's hard not to argue yourself into a corner when the term you're arguing against keeps getting broader and broader to the point where it can apply to pretty much everything.
>>
>>64753278
What isn't a melodrama?
>>
This show is awful. The characters are utterly obnoxious, the jokes are overexplained, they use to many references (lazy comedy).

It's easily the worst thing Netflix has put out.
>>
>>64753426

Are you just the same person, repeating the same opinion over and over, while everyone else simply disagrees with you?
>>
>>64751318
I liked Californication better
>>
>>64753487
Nope. I saw the picture, opened the thread, skimmed through and saw some cunts arguing and thought I'd throw my opinion into the mix.

Two people told me to start watching this show, incidentally those 2 people are assholes.
>>
>>64753529

It's the best thing not on TV.
>>
>>64752174
>a sensational dramatic piece with exaggerated characters and exciting events intended to appeal to the emotions

>>64753406

once again, google is there.

It is board, appeals to everyone, makes dumb people feel involved with a character's progression, but it doesn't actually progess in any way at all?
>>
>>64753593

Most of the people here, in 2016, are still children, who haven't yet had significant life experiences, or formed meaningful relationships.

Of course /tv/ hates it. Everything other than the animal jokes just goes right over their heads.
>>
>>64753666
Epic tip bro!
>>
>>64753802

I'm not sure why I still come to /tv/, or how in tune I am (probably not all), but yeah, adults who watch television and film often talk/argue about television and film.

Why do you think the show is rubbish?
>>
>>64753669
as you are an animator, Im suprised you are finding this particular instance so grating because what youve described is true of nearly all serialized animation as well as all tv shows in general.

bojack is guilty of melodrama (like all tv shows) but to say it does not progress is, i hope, disingenuous. complete the season and then tell us nothing has changed.
>>
>>64752245
For you. And that's ok. You do you boo.
>>
>>64749702
I hate the cat and Todd.

Fuck bojack

>>64754031

Of course it progresses. It just does so realistically.

One of the main themes of the show, established in the first scene of the first episode, is that life isn't like a sitcom where all problems are neatly solved in a 30 minute episode.
>>
>>64754247

Fuck you, Princess Carolyn is one of the best characters on the show.

But pic related for your new thoughts on what we were talking about.

>>64754302

I agree. Herb Kazzaz flashbacks were great too.

you are a furry anon. im so sorry
>>
>>64754404

>WOW DEEP!!!!

Everything is a metaphor.
>>
>>64754526

whatever, but South Park did this literally a decade ago with Kenny dying and not coming back. And it was a lot more poignant.
>>
>>64750634
i agree
>>
>>64754404

>herb kazzaz flashbacks

The scene where the executive lady talks Bojack into continuing the show and not siding with Herb is fucking painful to watch.
>>
>>64754404
we are all anonymous, so it is a big ask for you to believe that i have been consistant in saying bojack is your broad dictionary definition of melodrama, but to dismiss it all as "laboured melodrama" is wrong. especially in comparision to any other tv show ever.

things dont move rapidly, but they do change. There are "this guy is an animal" jokes, and there are cathartic emotional payoffs

I'm about to watch the last of S02, and the telegraphing of the daughter ending of the last episode isn't helping your point or my opinion.

Look, maybe I do like this show. I dunno. Well tipped, etc. We didn't resort to name calling too much.
>>
>>64753487

im not that guy and i can confirm the show is shit. ugly design, terrible "jokes", bad attempts at drama. its shit m8
>>
Wow, a shitty animated show about sad animals that have depression this is SO deep! Wow, I can totally relate to Bojack after being NEET for 3r58238529852948 years I know what its like to be the reason no one loves me so relate able!

Rick and Morty blows this McFarlane-wannabe out of the water
>>
>>64756722
>McFarlane-wannabe
The humor in Bojack is way too subtle (most of the time) for McFarlane and his audience. You can criticize the show, but at least do it correctly.
>>
>>64756722

0/10 bait.
>>
>>64756852
It's as subtle as Archer is. So for people that liked Family Guy when they were 15 and think this humor is more mature and "subtle"
>>
Why do netflix cartoons all have the same soulless style to them? Is it the same group of people making them?

it really isn't subtle at all. It's not funny either. It's good though.

Bojack has jokes that are intentionally, slap you in the face not subtle, as well as jokes you need to rewatch the show to even pick up on, because sometimes the setup came half a season earlier, and the punchline takes place in the background.
