Why was he afraid of room 237?
Did they explain it in the book?
Kubrick was a film hack.
It's a ghost lady in a bathtub that tries to kill him.

In the book its not even called room 237
why is his mother so fucking ugly.
Yes
>sometimes things can leave a trace of themselves behind
the movie shits all over the book see: red Beatle crushed in the snowstorm
i unironically believe Kubrick just put a bunch of random shit in his films and let critics try to unravel his jibberish as something thought out and profound.
It's all explained in the sequel, Room 237

The movie is the most basic synopsis of the book. Family stays in old mansion and gets snowed in. Alcoholic dad goes crazy and tries to kill them.
The book has more detail about everything.

Just like with 2001. He pretty much said that there is nothing deep and hidden to understand but flick reviewers and imdb film buff are still trying.

This.
The concept is also used in Room 1408 where hidden 13s pop up everywhere. The room is evil because the location is 13 13s stacked on top of one-another or something like that. It's something the movie doesn't come out and say directly, because it kind of sounds stupid, but you can infer it from hidden clues.

2001 definitely has deeper meaning, although Kubrick may have considered it obvious and therefore not deeper meaning at all. Still, if it is meaning beyond a summary of events then it counts as "deeper" or subtext.
