I did like it when I was 12, but I think it has more to do with the time it was made in. The stupid poop jokes and innuendo was considered classy.

It was the era of American Pie, with the infamous dude that fucked the pie, Scary Movie, and Not Another Teen Movie. It was basically a movie based on silly memes and tropes.

It's too bad that no one got the message from these types of movies, and we now live in an era of earnest "remakes", where the stupid tropes we used to mock are embraced unironically.

Rented that shit on VHS back in the day.

There are good things about two and three even if they were worse overall. Goldmember's shadow gags were great and The Spy Who Shagged me had some good jokes too, I just can't remember them right now.
>>
>>64680536
If you never saw the chessy spy movies that they were spoofing then of course you wouldn't get it. But they fucking nailed everything from the names of characters to the music they are perfect for what they are.

Its like watching the scary movies when you never saw the original horror movies they are spoofing, whats the point.

I hadn't seen more than a couple spy movies as a kid when I saw Austin Powers but I loved the Hard Days Night opening and most of the humor is accessible to anyone. That said it's true that they're even better the more you're familiar with the genres they celebrate.
