Harmon went overboard with the kitsch humour. s1 had the most grounded, emotionally satisfying character moments and a bigger focus on the running plot. s2 followed in the foots of the paintball episode from s1 and became absurd except it was a good type of absurd. s3 Harmon turned community into fan fiction.

The show was never the same after Harmon left. Even when he came back, it still couldn't recapture what it had once been. With that said, even if they aren't as good as the first three, seasons 4-6 are still quite enjoyable.

That is around when Dan got fired because of the whole Chevy Chase fiasco. It was actually on "Digital Estate Planning"
"Digital Estate Planning" is a sequel to "Advanced Gay" and was to be released sooner. That's the reason it seemingly comes from nowhere in the story, it got pushed to the end of the season.
Season 5 comes back strong, Season 6 too, it just doesn't have that umph it once did.

Season 4 felt off, but it wasn't as terrible as everybody seems to think (I think the shortcomings were magnified by people's expectations due to Harmon's departure... and there was a bandwagon effect going on). Similarly, season 5 wasn't the huge improvement over it that everybody thinks it was. It was better, but not astronomically so.

Rewatch S4. Some of the episodes seem "ok" but slightly off. One or two are great. The rest literally feel like chinese knockoffs. I agree that expectations hurt it... but it was still bad in relation to all other 5 seasons. 5 was great but I feel like some episodes were really good, and if it had a full 26 to develop the "new group" the way 1-3 did it would have been just as good.

It's different. Not bad. They changed the lighting and cameras and there is very little background music. I realized after a few rewatches that those are the main reasons it felt "off"
All episodes are at least enjoyable, but the IpadSegway and ThirdBottleEpisodeAboutBadThingsTheySayBehindEachother'sBack were pretty weak. Meanwhile, you have Dean in a VR machine, Garret's Wedding, Gay Dean, and that amazing Finale to more than make up for the weak ones
