I've been a Star Trek fan for 20 years but never watched Enterprise because Voyager was just too boring / bad and the movies weren't good either. I now started watching it on a whim and I'm having a really good time. It's a wilder and pulpier take on Star Trek, but it works and is a lot of fun. Kind of a mix between TNG and TOS.

Also waifus in most episodes.

I started with TOS, as that was the only series that existed when I was a kid. Remember staying up to watch Encounter at Farpoint and stayed with TNG throughout. I found that I enjoyed the entire thing more as I was able to watch it all in order as it came out, and I encourage anyone who is looking to get into everything to just do that.

I've only recently realised how much I've not seen of TOS, I just have like an ambient knowledge of it, despite having thoroughly consumed everything else.

I've been watching episodes daily on some cheapo Britbong channel calld CBSaction, they air just in time for dinner. They're the HD remasters with the incongruous looking CGI effects and for some reason the episodes are cropped for widescreen which is annoying me to no end.

I'm enjoying them though, they're sometime less goofy than I imagined them to be. But also sometimes moreso. Today was the one with Spocks dad as a Romulan.

I always thought they could've made her a lot more interesting if they had made her powers grow during the series.

Not in a suddenly OP'd way like they did with Kes so maybe nobody would notice they were writing her out for Tits of Nine, but a subtle transition to more full Betazoid levels of telepathy or even beyond. The real trick there would've been to keep her from being a massive deus ex.

That pic just made think it would've been cool to see her eyes change as she does.

Watch a Top Ten or Top Twenty episode list of TOS. If you like what you see, go back to the beginning and watch the whole show.

Watch the pilot of TNG, then try watching from the beginning of the third season. If you like what you see, go back to the beginning and watch the whole show.

Save DS9 as a reward for when you finish TOS and TNG.

I read something somewhere one time in a critique of Generations that switching the Kirk/Picard roles in the Nexus would have been a massive improvement and makes more logical sense.

Maybe Trash is harsh. There are worse movies. But these fail at being good trek, and also fail at being sci-fi action/adventure. So its doubly damming.

Shit insurrection is the better of them, just because half of the movie feels like a really bad late season episode of TNG. Then they throw in worf with a zit on his nose, and a purple space bazooka, and picard is having another fist fight with an alien.

Where the fuck is the Picard that used an alien's own pain in the ass treaty to jam up their own ass while he evacuates colonist? Or the captain that tap danced through Romulan snares and double crosses?

Generations was so unbelievably lazy that it probably deserved less than 4/10 - I just give it that because, as you say, I like the concepts and components that put it together.

But with the two different types of uniform, and the plot holes, and the general illogicalities (of all the fucking places to exit the Nexus...) there's no way it's actually a "good" movie.

Nemesis is the same as TFA in my opinion. An average movie, fine performances, made well, and just a complete carbon-copy of a successful film in the same franchise (ANH, TWoK) so lacking in any originality or creative vision. Just your average silver-screen fare.

Insurrection has Geordi's first sunset, the fight in the nebula, and some good performances. I'm pretty sure those are the only good elements of the movie.

Exactly, she's a traitor too. She went against the orders of the previous political authority (which set up the service to protect the citizens of the colonies) and she went against the current political authority (Roslin), making her a traitor to both.

This whole discussion, all you've been doing is listing the reasons why she's a coward and a traitor.

I've seen all of TNG and DS9. I like Trek, but there are a few things that stop me getting really invested in it:
>the consistently unfunny, cringeworthy nan humour
>the sometimes shit characters (like sisko's girlfriend, Beverley Crusher and Troi)
>the cringe relationships

Essentially, the character interactions are often awkward and make my autism flare up.

Also in DS9:
>the constant use of the phrase "smug, superior attitude"

Essentially, the characters clash with my millennial post-ironic sensibilities.

Practical about having one ship guaranteed to survive as opposed to all probably dying. Besides, unlike the Galactica she actively attacked cylon ships.

>Sometimes we have to leave people behind so that we can go on. So that we can continue to fight. Sometimes we have to do things that we never thought we were capable of, if only to show the enemy our will. Yesterday, you showed me that you're capable of setting aside your fear, setting aside your hesitation, and even your revulsion. Every natural inhibition that, during battle, can mean the difference between life and death. When you can be this for as long as you have to be, then you're a razor. This war is forcing us all to become razors. Because if we don't, we don't survive. And then we don't have the luxury of becoming simply human again.
