My aunt actually used to be really good friends with the person who wrote this movie, she's super wack and has the sense of humor of a British colonist from the 1930s.
But yeah, Bollywood definitely does take those kinds of cues. Remember, the population of India is extremely poor, and live, for the most part, extremely shitty lives (kind of like Americans in the 30s). For the most part, especially these days, thematic complexity isn't really on the menu. But if you see any merit in things like choreography, over-the-top action sequences, or set design (women tend to enjoy the former and latter), it's a decent genre.
Artistically, Bollywood probably reached its apex in the 70s.
Some hilarious action movies have come from the Tamil film industry, though, and the Malayalam film industry had some fantastic pictures in the 70s and 80s.

anyway, complained to the theater. Manager wrote me back saying that screen was near its end of life for the projector bulb, so they replaced it. Gave me 2 free tickets for any movie.
Next time I was there the issue was resolved.

Theaters make nothing from ticket sales. Around 10% on opening week. If you have any complaint, tell the manager and they'll give you a free ticket. At multiplexes noise is a real common complaint.
Instead of actual pass, one would just scribble shit on my ticket. So I would just forge his signature and go to a free movie every other month.
