You know where you're going to see a lot of Star Wars sales from? Theme park tickets, Disney already makes a massive amount of profit from it's parks and resorts. Once they open the 14 acre Star Wars addition in Orlando and California they'll see a similar uptick like Universal did when they opened up the Harry Potter expansion.

And think all the shit people buy while they're in the parks for huge markups. Once people are in the gates they'll usually average spending around $100-$200 in a single day.

I mean I want there to be a Kotor 3 too, but the fact of the matter is, they shot themselves in the kneecap by setting SWTOR so far into the future. There's no way of doing another KOTOR unless you:
A) Set it even further in the future (thus establishing stuff about said future that will limit your choices and surprises in expansions for SWTOR)
B) Limit the influence of player characters (since if there was yet another Exile/Revan level entity, we'd know about it from SWTOR)
Or C) Make it painfully obvious what the "right choices" are, by making based around a character whose existence and fate we are already familiar with from SWTOR.

It's actually a case-by-case basis between the distributor and the theatres.

The amount is usually 50-55% for the studio, but, depending on the contract, the theatre can take up to 60% if it does well.

Actually in the U.S. with the major theater chains it is a sliding scale. The first week, usually the studios get 75-85%, the second week around 60% and the third and fourth weeks around 50%, if they stick around longer, sometimes the theater will get more than 50% of the take.

Foreign Markets mean less. China might be the second biggest market in the world, but foreign studios are only allowed 20% of box office. and before last year it was 15%. Most other countries it runs between 30% and 60%

But as the other people have said, Disney is making their real money on Merchendising. Disney has done THREE BILLION in merchandising sales alone since "force friday" back in September. Add that to the fact that disney did 2.4 billion gross in toy and video game sales of Star Wars merchandise in 2014, and you realize just how much of a Cash Cow this is for disney

He was ripped off and it was an instant decision. Read an interview where George sat down with Disney's CEO for the first time and the CEO nudged George and told him "if you ever want to sell it, we're interested." Then Georgy had the idea to sell it.

If anything, he didn't calculate everything Star Wars makes. He should've sold it close to 20 billion.

When was the last time you heard of anyone talk of "the most profitable movie of all time"? Never, because 1) nobody cares, and 2) it's impossible to track. The only record that matters is "the highest grossing movie of all time", a record that no star wars movie will ever hold again.
>>
>>64470033
It'll be the highest grossing film of all time domestically. That's not something to sneer at. Also, Episode IX could possibly end up beating Avatar (especially considering inflation) depending on the quality of VIII and how much they hype it being the last Star Wars movie.
>>
>>64469150
>So, if anything, they've made very little.

Are you even aware of how much you are talking out of your ass? One of the most successful movies of all time has made very little? The budget was 200 as were marketing costs. By your logic, no movies make money. Your reasoning a shit.

Every manchildren over the past year has pushed the narrative that this movie was going to BTFO of Avatar's worldwide gross, and a lot even had the gall to suggest it could surpass Gone with the Wind's adjusted $3.5b. Given how delusional you've all proven yourself to be once again (let's not forget TPM vs. Titanic in 1999), I don't think any prediction that comes out of your mouth should be taken seriously at all.

You're delusional. The movie has made the same domestic gross in 17 days that took avatar 72 days.

Further more stars wars is exceeding avatar's foreign gross at the same point in their respective runs.

It has over 10 weeks at the box office still. Probably longer. It will exceed 2 billion easily.

Whether it will topple avatar is unknown but it will certainly come very close.
>>
>>64471307
>Whether it will topple avatar is unknown but it will certainly come very close.
Avatar had literally no drop for the first few weeks. Star Wars is dropping at a lower rate than most films, but it's still dropping. It'll be lucky to beat the worldwide numbers for Titanic.
>>
>>64471360

Star Wars is outpacing avatar by miles though. It took avatar over 70 days to make what Star Wars had made domestically in 17
>>
>>64471413
But it'll taper off before it gets to 2.7 billion. It still has over a billion to go, which it isn't going to make unless China somehow falls in love with the film.

Actually at this point in the run avatar dropped by 50% compared to the preceding week. So avatar dropped quite precipitously as well.

However, even dropping into single digit millions avatar still went on to make another 300 millions dollars from the rest of its run domestically.

I predict a 1.1 billion domestic for star wars. And 1.2 billion foreign + china. So maybe 2.5 billion.

This is conservative though. It is plausible it could make more.
