The only problem with, for me at least, is that I would think someone with that sort of training, and also prosecuting cartel members so he's familiar with their tactics...why wouldn't he anticipate such a hit, or have super tight security on a compound, or whatever.

never said he was a trained operative when his family died, said he could have been ex military and or law enforcement, namely police. becoming an op isn't as impossible as you think it is anon. Zetas had members who were trained by U.S. Special Forces and of whom left the Police Force. They numbered in the thousands.
