I don't like the Sith considering the darkside to be "evil", just unnatural. I just re watched the OT and I swear I do not remember a single mention of the light side of the force. The way I understood it (solely through OT's exposition) is that there is a life binding energy called the Force and a twisted representation of it called the dark side. I believe the original intention was not a light/dark dichotomy but the Force as a balanced, neutral thing and the dark side as something upsetting that balance that needs to be stopped

The jedi saw their method as being the only correct way the force is meant to be used so they just call it the "Force". The "Dark Side" is basically the wrong way to use it.
From the Jedi's perspective restoring "Balance" is stamping down those who would upset the natural order of things.
Whether that's "right" or not is going to really lean on if you think the Jedi's understanding of the nature of the force is correct, or if they're only seeing the force as they wish to see it and fail to truly grasp it's nature.
