The one lone Indian didn't kill Leo on sight and saved his life. Why? Because he was a civilized fucker who actually talked to Leo instead of putting 10 arrows in his back on first reaction.
The Indian woman was able to cooperate with Leo in their escape. Why? Because she was smart enough to understand that Leo wasn't one of the Frenchies and they were able to form a deal during that time which allowed them to get what they needed in that moment.
