This woman tells you that you never really chose anything you wear.

She says what you're wearing is the end result of a committee of people like her meticulously figuring out what they knew you would buy.

She says it's all been chosen for you before you even knew what you wanted.

How do you respond to that?
>>

The ability to influence what people wear has to be the lamest superpower I've ever seen.

If you told me how my food was selected for me or my job was selected for me or my friends or my wife was selected for me... then I might be a little bit intimidated by you. But I just don't give enough of a shit about my clothes. It's kind of sad actually. You thinking that you matter.

The thing is, there are thousands like her out there who are competing. She directly does not decide what I wear. Its just boring capitalism, like her barely being able to decide what kind of brand milk I buy.

Overrated hag.

Is this an analogy for how movies are made? Because I'm more bothered by films being made by committees than clothes. I don't give a shit about clothes.

Go one further level of abstraction: you never really chose your preferences. Everything you 'like' or 'dislike' was a purely reactive thought, not even a rational thought, but a heavily emotional disposition toward that reaction. You 'like' or 'dislike' something before you even knew. Nothing in fashion is ever a choice. Attempting to concoct a narrative that a 'committee' of people could exert ideas of fashion or taste on others, let alone themselves, in a vacuum, is irrelevant once you understand this.

She's right. The average person is nothing but a sheep.

Trends are dictated by people like her.

Every scene except for maybe grunge and punk was created by people like her. Every fashion era, every mainstream music scene, every art scene, and everything mainstream is dictated by people like her.

So unless you're a metal-head wearing that 30-year-old Iron Maiden shirt or redneck wearing the same pair of jeans you got married in, people like her own you.

And it's not just fashion. People like her are why millions define the worth of their existences and the existences of everyone around them by how expensive of a smartphone they have. People like her rule all consumer industries.

While in college it was mandatory for my major to take two semesters of marketing classes.

It was depressing and a bit horrifying to learnt hat in college as it's taught, marketing is 100% psychological case studies with stuff like the Hawthorne effect and many others, and it's all about how to study behavior patterns and weaponize psychology to manipulate those patterns to translate them into sales.

It's all weaponized psychology. The textbooks seemed more like stuff psychology and sociology majors should have. But that's what marketing is as it's taught. If you think marketing as it's taught is studying markets and demographics and shit to find what the markets want, you're dead fucking wrong.

And within it, I learned something that was in front of me but I never noticed. Do you know why fast food restaurants and many candy-makers always show people eating? Do you ever notice how some of them will even have a close-up of a mouth chewing? It's to trigger your inner "mindless sheep" need to to what everyone else is doing to make you want to eat that shit too whether or not you're hungry. It's pure weaponized psychology.

I just thought you'd like to know that.
>>
>>64386597
>Because men don't brag about their fancy watches or custom tailored suits?

normal ordinary men? No, they don't. 99% cannot afford a custom trailored suit. Most Americans have to borrow their overalls for a wedding or prom night.

There's a commonality between the two, namely that one does not act so much as is acted by pre-existing factors. Like Spinoza said, we believe ourselves to be free because we know only our actions and not the ulterior causes that led us to them.

Millenials and post-millenials who have yet to produce their own unique scene are ripping off every scene that came before them, and they think it's new and different because it's new and different for them and their limited frame of reference.

Yeah I know I can't exactly say I've done my part to carve out a new scene but it's still true regardless, and I am sick of being around girls with dyed hair who think they're being wild and different when their moms and dads did that shit a long time ago.

That's also why women pay far more for roughly the same thing as men. That's why when you go to a department store, they have entire floors devoted to women's apparel but the men's wear is some corner in the back of the store.

Check out Bloomberg. There was a recent article where it showed that simple like a scooter would cost $10 or $15 more if it were pink-colored instead of a color more gender-neutral.

If you believe otherwise, you don't have any inkling of how the business works.

What you're talking about is mostly just high school indoctrination. So unless meryl streep invented high school...

Because nuh-uh. And if that's the case, then I'm the exception, I'm completely rational and none of that applies to me. I'm a man, whatever the hell that means.

youre way off

high school didn't invent the pecking order. that was established a long, long time ago. Clothing is simply another part of that along with big muscles, and big tits.
>>
>>64388656
They make clothes for your demographic too. They still got you by the balls.

>/tv/ = fashion

You fags just need to accept that you'll never look this good

>high school didn't invent the pecking order.
But its where 99.9% of people are indoctrinated into it.

I'm well aware of that. All my fashion choices are reactionary to make myself not look bad when I'm in a professional setting. I would love to wear jeans and a t-shirt at work, but I don't have that luxury thanks to people like her. It's not my choice, but I have to do it.

they make clothes that went out of style years ago and cant be bought new in shops any more for me? cool

Hoodies are for niggers, wiggers, and spiggers

Sorry but it's true.

No matter the race of who's wearing one, every time I see someone in it I think "someone's about to get robbed" or "some woman's about to get the shit beaten out of her."

They're the ultimate symbol of modern ghetto trash.
>>
>>64387362
Yes but my point is that anyone who thinks their good by shitting on fashion are hypocritical. Nowadays, people lack personality so they make it up with geek crap and rage comics being a huge part of their lives

Besides, if this video was even real, clearly they made it to attack me, which means they're scared of me."

I actually knew a really seriously pale kid in highschool with a super almost albino hair and goatee, he LOOKED like a goat. I swear to god he brought in manga's and colored them in with crayola colored pencils, and showed them to teachers and asked for their opinion. He tried to get dodgeball banned because a little Mexican girl(completely non-athletic) pegged him in the nuts, he went around with a petition in every class asking for signatures, he was really assertive about it too. Talking about this now it feels like a fake person, but this kid was really something else.

He got into a 10 minute arguement with our biology teacher about the Scientific Method. How we follow the scientific method, even when we aren't aware that we are always using it. He uses our wardrobe as an example. The white dork went on and on about how he just blindly picks clothes every morning and doesn't even "think" about what to wear, he just throw it on. He is the epitome of what you just said anon.

By the way I don't really hate that kid or any neckbeards really.

Feel like being black and coming in with some fucked-up black-girl hair? Feel like some stupid hair color? Go for it!

Are you?

The context of the scene is a 60something telling a 20something that the 60something is the reason for everything the 20something does. So unless the 60something invented high school, shes full of shit.

The pecking order existing is irrelevant if there isn't an organized institution for it's maintenance.

My sister works in apparel, a lot of the designers age range vary from 20~70. Based on her experiences, I gather that the Devil Wears Prada was a super accurate movie. Although she doesn't work directly under the Miranda Priestly boss character. She actually deals with managers and supervisors like any other job.

>FASHION AND STYLE ORIGINATE IN HIGH SCHOOL, AND NOT WITH THE PRODUCERS WHO SELL THE SHIT TO KIDS WHILE TELLING THEM IT'S WHAT ALL THE COOL PEOPLE ARE WEARING!

Kids are too fucking stupid to know anything. They're young, naive, impressionable, and easily-manipulated, which is why so many industries make billions target-marketing them.

You may not agree now, but just wait a couple of years after high school, look back on the shit you used to like not too long ago, and realize it's true.
>>
>>64388980

men are the face of the company. the pride of the work force. when a woman is giving you attitude or doesnt know what the fuck is going on or where something is and you say "can you get me a manager or department head" or whatever, what you really mean is "get me a sharp dressed man who has his mind on his work ffs, you slag"

Why does she want me to wear flannel shirts over graphic tshirts on top of jeans, an ensemble that cost me less than 30, most of which was the jeans

what's her angle

Once you get out of college and into the workplace, you'll realize how basically all of western society is identical to high school. That without that indoctrination factory, most, if not all of consumerism would not exist.
>>
>>64389234
that is fashion. Sadly my budget calls for me to buy cheap clothing. So I end up trying to look my best with t-shirts jeans button downs or slacks/jeans.

And bitch no you did not invent nudity so don't even try that.
>>
>>64389341
I actually buy construction/work clothing like dickies and they are really built to last. Some of them are designed with modern trends. So you can spend 30~50 and get something that will last beyond the life-time of designer jeans.
>>
>>64388949
Hahahahahah holy shit. I sometimes regret that my high school had a no bully policy. I knew someone exactly like the type u described. Although he was really into anime and had dead links to hentai in his pc notes. These types are often delusional thinking people actually make bad decisions because they don't wear hoodies, baggy oants and autism shoes
>>
>>64389341
Go hit up goodwill, or some thrift stores. You have to pick through a lot of shit, but you can find name brand pants for a few bucks.

Perfectly fine clothes for just kicking around. You can save that money to buy a few pairs of nicer clothes for occasions where you want to look like you tried.

Shit I went to highschool in 2002-2006. I feel very bad for you guys. I think about how much i plagiarized from wikipedia before the teachers caught on. There would be bullying and open dress code. The very next year after I graduated, kids had to wear a blue polo shirt with the school logo and beige slacks. It's even worse with all the camera stuff. I think about my kids and my nephew all the time, and any kid that doesn't have a second of privacy.

Rolex has been a company for how long?
>>
>>64389568
Damn that sucks man. But yeah, boots are really great for fashion these days. Even stuff you wouldn't expect. I think people like wearing docmartins and chukka style boots. So your normal boots will range 80~200 and designer boots like 300+
>>
>>64389565
Not where I live

Goodwill and other thrift stores now dig through and separate anything that's of value to put onlie for auction.

http://www.shopgoodwill.com/

Now treasure-hunting by hitting the thrift stores is long gone as everything on the store shelves is guaranteed to be the shit.

Yeah, if there was any minimal evidence of Wikipedia usage, they'd expelled you for plagiarism. Shit, we actually used those goddamn polo shirts too. That said though, some girls looked amazing in them.

Irrelevant

They didn't start making good watches until the 1960's with the oyster datejust movement that set them apart from the packs. Before then their watches were just average gold-filled unimpressive watches.

That's why pre-60's Rolex's are so comparatively worthless.

The past decade is a fag

I used to rock timberland before rappers started wearing it and I know exactly how you feel. I've still got an old pair of leather shoes from them that still hold together after decades of abuse. They're disgusting, and funky, and ugly as shit, but they refuse to die. Meanwhile I tear the seams out of every other shoe I've ever bought in 6 months.

But that's capitalism for you, no money in selling you the last pair of shoe's you'll ever buy.
