Apart from BB-8 or anything stolen from previous films, can you name me one iconic design that was in The Force Awakens?
Kylo's saber you retard
Unfortunately yes. The retarded deviantart saber.
>>64352622
>muh crossguard!
So iconic.
It's not exactly up there with the death star, vader's helmet or the millenium falcon.
>>64352655
>vader's helmet or the millenium falcon.
Very, very few things are
>>64352655
That's because unlike Vader and the Falcon. Kylo's sabre didn't appear in multiple movies yet.
>>64352655
>muh crossguard!
It also had a unique sound and visual effect.
>>64352596
Rey's speeder bike.
>>64352695

>AT-ATs
>C3PO
>Jabba
>yoda

Nobody's going to remember it in 20 years time.
>>64352748
>Rey's speeder bike.

>Nobody's going to remember it in 20 years time.
Honestly, we dont know that yet.
>>64352771
Merchandise.
>>64352596
the random aliens on jakku but i cant really name them
>>64352771
Only R2-D2, Yoda, and MAYBE Stormtroopers(because they were in so many fucking movies) are on par with Vader and the Millenium Falcon.
>Boba Fett, who had about 6 lines is more memorable and iconic than anything that Disney could come up with
Redditors will defend this.
>>64352766
this desu
they were so scared of alienating fans (like the prequels) they literally added nothing drastic
its not really that surprising
>>64352901
Phasma could have been the new Boba if she did anything. Her design was completely wasted.
>>64352596
C-3PO's red arm
I liked the use of the McQuarrie X-wing design.
>>64353011
>>64352995
She sells toys. Literally the entire purpose of the character was to look cool as an action figure.
>>64353011
>>64353035
what snake is c3po
>>64352995
Supposedly, she will do more in the inevitable sequel.
>>64353050
True
This movie didn't produce a lot of distinct shit for merchandising
Lucas learned a long time ago how to produce a fuckload of irrelevant characters with 1 second of screen time each to make action figures out of for maximum shekels; a skill Jar Jar has still yet to develop.
So they gotta milk every last thing they can.
>>64352596
BB-8 was actually based on an old rejected design for R2.
>>64353050
Yeah but so is half the franchise, difference is the toyetic characters at least accomplish something in the movie. Even Boba had cool lines, a badass attitude and was basically the whole reason the good guys lose in Empire.
>>64353198
Sure and I hope they can fix her. But the damage is sorta already done isn't it? She immediately surrendered and blew up her own super weapon. Then she got stuffed into the garbage.
She's already completely undermined as a threat and shes a total joke to most people now.
That fucking riot trooper is getting all the attention. (And for good reason)
>>64353050
She is LITERALLY Boba 3.0
>>64353255
Yeah they really could have amped up the merchandising shit and it's bizarre they didn't. Disney just paid billions for the franchise and then sort of missed the point of why you would pay so much for it, i.e. to milk it to shit with new vehicles, toys, etc.
Maybe they think that coming out with a new movie every year will be enough milking, but it still seems like a missed opportunity.

Oh they fucking did. They just did it in a different kind of way. You can't go anywhere without bumping into some sort of Star Wars shit.
>>64353542
Could you draw it from memory?
Ren
Black Squadron helmet
the pirate captain
the pig on jakku
the metal beast on jakku
Phasma
FO Uniforms
literally the only iconic things in the prequels are Maul, Jango, Mace, Droidekas, Grievous and the Naboo fighter, and thats in 3 movies
>>64353432
I shopped them yellow to show how they're a bunch of robo-ducks and the new design's fucking retarded.
>>64353639
Not the anon you replied to but yer definitely. His design is pretty cool to be honest. I really like how his lightsaber has the air vent things because it's a cracked crystal. Anyone who disagrees this isn't a cool idea is just saying that to be some ebin hat tipper.
>>64352655
Kylos saber has existed in the public consciousness for a maybe a few months, whenever the trailer came out. Those things you've mentioned have existed for nearly four decades. I can think of very few things from any scifi franchise that is as iconic, I think you're just determined to dislike this film's design if you're framing your question this way.
>>64353688

Hey, reddit
>>64353789
It's true though, I'm not even arguing that you must like this film or that it's groundbreaking or even good, just that you've sown your own conclusion.
>>64353828
Because it's true. There's very, very little in the way of memorable or decent design in the film.
>>64353788
The only thing I remember about him was all the metal lines around the eyes like steps going down and you only put it on his forehead. 4/10
>>64353688
I'd argue queen amadala (as the actual queen with makeup and shit) looked pretty iconic and memorable, regardless if you think she looked dumb or not.
>>64352771
>Nobody's going to remember it in 20 years time.
b8. Darth Maul's saber was a smash hit.
>>64353849
That is your opinion (and it's mine too to be honest), but what is not opinion is that you've set the bar higher than any other science fiction film could ever achieve, much less one that's been out for a month.
If you dislike the design of the film, just say that, don't try to frame it in a false analogy and pass it off as demonstrable fact.
>>64353164
Venom Snake
>>64353955
This isn't a question of whether the design is good, it's about whether it's iconic and memorable. It isn't.
>>64353850
fuck
what about this guy
>>64354024
>it isnt because I said so
merchandising trumps your shitty opinions
>>64354024
You can't honestly call something failing to be iconic or memorable when it's been out for a month if your litmus test is the original star wars trilogy. Nothing will pass this litmus test, you are effectively expressing nothing.
>>64354024
You literally can't decide if it's iconic or memorable, that's for the general audience to decide over years or exposure. Especially the new generation of watchers. You especially can't because you grew up with the originals which you are heavily biased towards.
>>64352596

She too pretty to be playing Brienne of Tarth.
Someone sperged on me in a previous thread, but I'll still stand by my opinion that the rations were neat, and 10x better than the blue milk. But I just like lame things, like how characters survive day to day in a fiction's universe.
It isn't new, but finally showing how Chewie's bowcaster was way different than blasters was nice, and should have been show in the OT.
There was about as much memorable stuff as the prequels and the OT, no more no less.
>>64354104
>You literally can't decide if it's iconic or memorable, that's for the general audience to decide over years or exposure
And as evidenced by this thread, we have a total of 2 memorable designs.

>>64354152
>>64353688
everything is iconic because it hadn't been done before. all the architecture in corusant and naboo, the droid army in all their different forms, all the senators and citizens of the republic. all the spaceships that the trade federation pilots, everything.
>>64354244
List them.
>>64354173

Looks like you didn't read the whole quote buddy, even though you posted it. Can't say I'm surprised.
>>64354223
I don't remember it.
Unless it was that lambda shuttle thing. Which is just another OT design slightly modified.
>>64352596
>>64354279

HAHAHAHAHA fucking /tv/
>>64354303
Why does it take years? BB-8 is obviously iconic and memorable. The gay death star planet is not.

I swear, every Star Wars thread on this board is becoming retarded...
>I-i bet you can't name something iconic from TFW that isn't this or this
>kylo ren's lightsaber is not iconic. I mean iconic like vaders helmet and the millenium falcon. You know, things that have been ingrained in our head for over 30 years!

She butches herself up nicely for the role, so she deserves it.
>>64354380
Looks like reddit has arrived
>>64352596
But OP, BB-8 was stolen from the previous films. It's a redesign of the original concept sketches for R2-D2.
>>64354279
>everything is iconic because it hadn't been done before
Heads up guys. The entire prequel trilogy is iconic now.
>>64354360
Because it takes that much time to see whether or not certain pieces of design gel in people's minds or not. Honestly this might just help your opinion but a lot of it depends on public reaction and merchandising. If you want to compare it to the OT, at least wait until this trilogy is done before you start calling your shitty opinion gospel.
>>64354380
Preach it
>>64352596
The winged dropship.
The quad jumper.
Rey's speeder thing.
Original design is kind of peppered in. It doesn't bother me that it isn't prominent because watching X-wings vs. Tie Fighters was awesome as fuck.
>>64354443
OK, let's instead just take those designs that are memorable to us now as a starting point.
Do you have any examples?
>>64354536
>i'll just change the question so i can be right
>>64354440
Everyone's seen them

>>64354621
For protection when dropping into a hot zone.
>>64354621
It has a remote-controlled option.
Here the new design atleast has some meaning and purpose, it isn't just for show.
Kylo Rens lightsaber is the extension of his character: highly unstable, crude and amateur build and very powerful. The vents are on the side because it has a cracked crystal inside the hilt which produces a unstable beam that needs those 2 vents just to work properly.
But yeah no drastic changes were made in TFA, played kinda safe
>>64354327
This is about as generic as a dropship gets. Fucking Avatar had better stuff than this.

How many seconds of screen time did Boba Fett have?
>>64354811
Is your point that they are comparable but one falls flat while the other doesn't? Because Jabba is much more important to the films than junkyard alien, but that's a function of plot relevance and screen time, not iconic design or the films overall staying power, as you seem to be implying.
>>64354781
name anything iconc or new and fresh besides

And R2-D2 looks like a friendly dalek, which came first.
"Originality" is relative and based completely on opinion. Many things in fiction are inspired by something, sometimes without the creator even realizing how much previous works inspired their own.

I'll be honest with you, now you have shown me a picture, I know that was the thing from ESB. But let's not kid ourselves. it's far from memorable.

Phasmas armor was a modified stormtroopers armor, sprayed silver, the lightsaber was bullshit, the bike was a super boring version of the landspeeder (also for some reason rey left it running while scavenging for hours, which triggered me hard). Even the bad lander looked like the imperial landers with one wing removed. I don't get how they could get away with something so generic and copy pasted.

Nothing in TFA is iconic.
>>64353410

A C-3PO BECOMING DEMONS
I thought Rey's general look was pretty memorable
>made of desert beige sorta robes wrapped around her body
>exposed shoulders and calves
>the 3 ponytail hair
>the staff
They clearly intend on sticking to it generally. At the end she has a smart waistcoat thing but still with the exposed shoulders
Also Poe/Finn's jacket has potential
I like the starkiller

Sorry for your mental illness, but just because a few people parrot a phrase from a movie that was released A WEEK AGO and then never think of it again, doesn't make it iconic.
You seem to have confused the word 'iconic' with the word 'memorable', and half the things on your list aren't even fucking memorable at that.
haha maybe if I call people retarded it will invalidate their arguments and they'll give up
oh wait that's never worked ever

>a black rope and helmet, now thats original new stuff
>the imperial lander missing 1 wing but otherwise identical in every way?
>a podracer?
>some block ship that we see in literally 1 scene for a short moment
portions were pretty good, ill give you that
>grievous guards had basically the same weapons
>grievous guards had staffs, not that her staff was anything special or creative
>first order ship designs looked almost 100% like imperial ships, aside from maybe the landing dropships
>generic quadpedal aliens carrying people trough the desert
>its a storm trooper sprayed silver, with no plot or meaningful lines
Xwings were pretty cool, but hardly something new
>seriously, the bowcaster?
the nod was nice, still deathstar 3.0 tho
>maz was new, the whole other planet looked like javin 4 or just plain fucking earth, i was actually shocked that it was not javin 4
i liked red suit guy, they looked like the old concept art
>wont even dignify this

Go back to being cucked on reddit you disney shill
>>64356170
Fresh off the boat, from reddit, kid? heh I remember when I was just like you. Braindead. Lemme give you a tip so you can make it in this cyber sanctuary: never make jokes like that. You got no reputation here, you got no name, you got jackshit here. It's survival of the fittest and you ain't gonna survive long on 4chan by saying stupid jokes that your little hugbox cuntsucking reddit friends would upboat. None of that here. You don't upboat. You don't downboat. This ain't reddit, kid. This is 4chan. We have REAL intellectual discussion, something I don't think you're all that familiar with. You don't like it, you can hit the bricks on over to imgur, you daily show watching son of a bitch. I hope you don't tho. I hope you stay here and learn our ways. Things are different here, unlike any other place that the light of internet pop culture reaches. You can be anything here. Me ? heh, I'm a judge.. this place.... this place has a lot to offer... heh you'll see, kid . . . that is if you can handle it.

>the Twin Ion Engine /lo uses a single ion reactor
rage
>>64356274
maybe it reacts twin ions
>>64356223
>>first order ship designs looked almost 100% like imperial ships, aside from maybe the landing dropships
The TIE fighters were actually significantly different. The OT didn't have the 2 seaters, which are supposed to be FO original Special Forces models. they also have different wings and some red detailing.
>>64356008
i dont get this post, you are right, kylo ren is the only thing that does not apply because how shitty he was. you never actually brought up anything else and where quick to evade any actually discussion. do you have any good points for your argumentation or is it just "buhu but you said i was right also you didnt buhuh clarify this and that". State any points at all.
>>64356358
tie bombers always where 2 seaters
>>64354380
The worst part is they can't even make that call til ep8 and 9 come out
>>64356470
No they weren't.
>>64356550
>>64354327
The entire front of the ship is blocking the turret. It can never aim down at anything, but it looks like an antipersonnel turret. What's it supposed to shoot, jetpack troopers?
You can't even lay down suppressing fire from that thing because it's way over the heads of anyone you could possibly want to suppress.
>>64356470
It's one pilot next to a fuckton of bombs and fuel.

huh, guess you are right
>>64355858
That's exactly what they did. The actress is already signed on for ep8 will a larger role. They're just setting up a non force using rival for Finn
>>64356470
>You can't even lay down suppressing fire from that thing because it's way over the heads of anyone you could possibly want to suppress.
>>64353724
>autism
>>64355147
it's a medical droid, pretty memorable imo.
>>64354862
is this from a book? takes me way back to back in the day when i had one with every ship / vehicle in star wars. in hindsight very autistic, but i remember tiny details from a myriad of ships, like the t16-skyhopper.
>>64356705
That's because it's supposed to look like a Higgins boat but for space.
They could have aped a helicopter but that's what every other fucker making a dropship design does so at least this one looks sort of unique in addition to being stupid.
>>64356907
>They could have aped a helicopter but that's what every other fucker making a dropship design does

>>64357048
those where so damn nice
>>64357176
My favorite thing to come out of the prequels. I love the beam weapons that act like beam weapons.
>>64357048
>Several weapons with large forward field of fire
>Large side doors allow rapid deployment and offer protection from incoming fire to troops
Then 40 years later and the first order has regressed to WWII drop the ramp and get lit the fuck up by mg fire status
>>64357523
>the B stands for Muh Boner
I thought it was supposed to have a 2 man cockpit?
>>64357408
I would just land at a perpendicular angle to the battle field while the huge off center cannon provides lateral cover fire.
But yeah, there is a reason Higgin's boats had the ramp on the front. There is no reason why it would be on the front of a drop ship.
>>64357569
Why did this thing had such ridiculously large wings all over the place again ?
>>64352771
Why do people say dumb shit about things they dislike? No one will remember it? By virtue of it being a Star Wars film people will remember it. If people fucking remember the Christmas Special, I think they're going to remember this.
>>64355650
Never fucking reply to me again unless you're contributing to the thread.
>>64356274
kek, "TIE" standing for "Twin Ion Engine" is EU shit that is gone now, For all we know "TIE" stands for (sorry can't make any good joke here)
>>64357986
>>(You)
>>64357963
the Christmas Special did nothing wrong!
>>64357808
Because it's a status symbol. If a lambda shuttle is landing it means someone with the authority to ruin your life for fun is on board.
Part of Sheev's imperial doctrine is to present the the most intimidating facade as possible. So "because it looks cool" is an actual reason for a lot of the empire's look.
>>64354862
Why didn't they just use TIE Defender instead of making up this thing?
>>64358091
>Lewdbacca
>>64358001
It stands for "Trademark of the Imperial Empireâ„¢"
>>64358224
your knowledge of Christmas Special awesomeness is to be congratulated! MOAR!!
>>64358191
Because it's too sexy.
Same reason the resistance didn't have a single A, B, or Y wing involved in the assault. And why you don't see a single interceptor.
They wanted to make sure this was as safe and recognizable as possible
>>64355147
>Good morning, Dave.
>>64358191
Weren't the Tie Defender's facilities destroyed with the whole Admiral Thrawn vs ...some else. It's not like the EU is still canon anyway.
>>64358362
Did the TIE Defender actually appear in the original movies? The rest of those ships definitely did.
>>64358356
>>64358191
Because they need fighters and not whatever those do

still does more than Phasma
>>64358350
thanks, that works

I know TIE Bombers were in the movie, but I can't tell if TIE Interceptors were? Anyone?
>>64358600
>not whatever those do
They fuck bitches, that's what they do
>>64358581
I don't think it did. TIE Defender has to be like the most recognizeable obscure EU thing, because anyone who even had a friend that had one of the xwing/tie games probably knows it.
>>64358685
Interceptors appeared in large numbers in RotJ
>>64358581
Never. It's pure EU. I think their first appearance is in "Tie Fighter"?
>>64358362
I always figured they'd use the TIE advanced, since it's more or less a TIE equivalent of an X-wing.
>>64358669

Yes. You can see them in Return of the Jedi along with older TIE. They are the anti-A-Wing.
