OP, you should look at the Criterion collection. Kubrick, Cassavetes, Lumet, Scorsese, Leone, Welles, John Ford, Antonioni, Fellini, Herzog, Tarr, Altman, Godard, Bresson, Tarkovsky, Kariostami, Ozu, Kurosawa, Park, Bong, and Ray makes a good starting list.
Based on your taste, I assume you love fantastical material with a pervasively dark tone throughout. May I recommend Pan's Labyrinth and Requieum for a Dream, along with Tarkovsky's opera?
