Even John fucking Williams phoned it in. I had no expectations. I was expecting the mediocre garbage we got, but at least a good light saber fight and one memorable song, but we didn't even that. What a fucking disappointment.

Rey's theme is ok, but yeah John is going senile. I wonder if they'll go through the entire trilogy with him.

Rey's theme is good and the Resistance theme is pretty good too. Kylos theme is a little cliche but it's still good. Williams doesn't make bad music ever.

Han Solo and the Princess is GOAT.

Also: Augies Municipal Band from the end of episode 1 is the Emperors theme in disguise. Its played very fast and in a happy key.

I liked Rey's Theme & The Scavenger, Kylo's motif when he shows up, and Jedi Steps.

I also enjoyed the lightsaber fight because it made sense. It wasn't going to be old niggas fighting each other like in the OT and it wasn't going to be acrobatic like Jedi in the PT.

It could literally only have been young people smashing randomly because none of them have any good lightsaber training (even Kylo).

THANK YOU!
What the fuck happened? He didn't even make one memorable song, even the Prequels had great new music, TFA has nothing to remember except scores from the OT.
>>
>>64333786

This is the dumbest meme. They were not terrible films. Hayden Christianson just sucked and that was 90% of the hate. Replace him with Harrison Ford and suddenly it's a GOAT trilogy.
>>
>>64333843

He watched TFA and realized it was capeshit garbage and phoned it in. Easy.
>>
>>64333844
They are mostly unwatchable. No drama, no tension, awful CGI and """comedy""", dull political shit that doesn't even make sense let alone ADD to the story.
>>
>>64333889

>let alone ADD to the story.
>ADD

Interesting you would use that term. Seems to sum up your brain.
>>
>>64333844
No you autistic flidd, nobody could act that godawful dialog, look at natalie portman, who is usually great. The cinematography and directing was horrendous, just people sitting on sofas, shot reverse shot. Lucas sat on his ass, handed the actors a horrible script and let them get on with it. Not to mention the overused, shitty and unecassey CGI, and boring characters. Vader became a whiny freak and yoda became a boring old cunt who abducted kids, he didn't even talk in the same pattern as he did in the OT. They were cashgrabs, plain and simple. The music was the only good part, and the designs, two things Lucas wasn't involved in.
>>
>>64333934
And anyone who actually thinks the prequels are good films must have the mental age of an 8 year old.
>>
>>64333974

Meming hard. Great action sequences. Very well-told story and explaining the politics of the universe. New planets, weapons, craft, lore, etc. Awesome acting from some, poor acting from others. Obi-Wan was amazing. Memorable villains like Maul, Dooku, and Grievous. Amazing battle scenes. Emotional moments that give chills like Order 66. Amazing duel between Obi-Wan and Anakin.

TFA was a cashgrab. The prequels was Lucas taking a chance with whole new worlds.

Fuck off. I won't even call you a Disney shill, I'll just call you an idiot. If you didn't enjoy the prequels then you are just dense.

>>
>>64334035
>great action
Yes, tensionless boring fights. Oh look battle droids, good thing they pose no threat whatsoever. Oh look a light saber fight. It's just people flipping about with no clear winner until the very end.
>well told story
All it did was fill in gaps from the OT, so it's already unoriginal. And how was it well told? It felt disjointed as fuck.
>new lore
Doesn't make a good movie at all. I'll admit ep 7 was unoriginal as fuck but as a movie it's of better quality.
>awesome acting
There was non. Ewan stood out, but it still wasn't execellent, just better than all the others.
>memorable villains
Maul had no personality whatsoever. He looked cool, that's it. Dooku was conflicted as to light/dark at the start of 2 but that was forgotten about 5 minutes after he's introduced, and then he's just another generic villain. And grevious was a pathetic coward who coughed a lot.
>emotional moments
Order 66 isn't emotional at all. You don't feel a connection to any of the jedi because their order is made to look weird and sterile in the first place, and secondly because we don't see clones kill anyone we care about. Oh no, not background alien #4! There was no looks of betrayal of any emotion conveyed except in the music.
>anakin and obis duel
Again just retarded swinging sabers with neither opponent winning or losing until the end. No tension or damage done to either of them until the cop out high ground ending. And then the stupid shit like swinging on ropes and standing on floating robots.

I don't like episode 7, but it's of far better quality than the prequels. I know a lot of hard work went into the designs, but George can't direct or write.

You wouldn't be saying that if you realized how much Hollywood hates real composers unless they have a huge name behind them like Spielberg or Lucas. Most of the composers now are Hans Zimmer wannabes. Complete hacks who wouldn't know how to theme their scores even if Richard fucking Wagner was standing right behind them with sheet music.

Film scores used to mean something. Before film they would perform arias, and the music was just accompaniment for the performers on stage. Now by carrying a theme throughout our scores we can close our eyes and know what the film is portraying on screen. Blindfold yourself and watch Star Wars. You will know who is on screen based on the theme, or motive. Sometimes they will blend two themes together, the tone portraying the state of affairs the two characters may be in. Even Boba Fett has a theme that is seamlessly blended into the score, giving the viewer a sense of uneasiness as one of our heroes is whisked away in carbonite.

Film scores used to fucking meeeeeaaaan somethiiiiing goddamniiiiit

I really love Kylo Ren's theme
>>
Williams didn't do too bad a job, but the movie didn't have anything particularly new to offer that warranted a vastly new theme. The space battle is pretty low key, the saber battles are between amateurs, there's no real call for a "Duel of Fates" or "Across the Stars" love theme.

I thought the leitmotif use was pretty weak, but after listening to the tracks on youtube that seems to be less a problem with the music and more the director and sound editor not using them as strongly as Lucas did.

I recognized Rey's theme because it was so obvious when it played, but it didn't stand out to me like any of Anakin's themes for example. Just shit editing overall, the same kind of hackjob they do for Marvel movies and the same shit that happened with the Hobbit movies

Jedi steps for TFA

I haven't watched the prequels in a very long time so I won't say the soundtrack is the worst, but It's definitively below average. There's nothing bad, some good tracks here or there, but nothing comparable to those in the OT or even some in the prequels.

Don't get the love for Rey's theme, It's completely and utterly boring and nothing like any of the other memorable Star Wars themes.

Having seen the movies 3 times, I can safely say the best and most memorable themes are the ones associated with Kylo Ren.

John's nearly 90 and spent most of his life producing so many amazing scores for some of the most memorable movies of the past forty-fifty years. He probably came out of retirement just because it wouldn't be a real Star Wars without a Williams soundtrack. Just like Peter Mayhew "played" Chewbacca in TFA but was probably only in the suit for five minutes as a symbolic thing, since the poor bloke can barely walk any more. Williams just came back as a token of respect and gratefulness to one of the main movies that made him the most well-known soundtrack composer. If they did an OST without him and he was still alive, it just wouldn't be right, since Williams and Star Wars are inseparable. This was probably his last time with his series, and probably any major blockbuster, so give him a break, he doesn't have much time left and he's done so much for movies already, he deserves a rest.
