His acting is pretty good in this, and not just by Jackie Chan standards.
He may be playing to type, but he only gets one serious fight scene (and it's a dream sequence), so he has to rely on his acting for most of the movie.

He nearly died during Operation Condor. A tree branch he jumped on (which he jumped successfully before in the previous take) broke and he feel 15 or 20 feet and cracked his head on a rock. His only request after recovering was to let his hair grow out to cover the hole.
He's got a permanent hole in his skull to this day.
