For a comedy? That's fucking crazy.
>>

>How? Explain this shit to me

Every single major film costs 150 million dollars now.

Remember when Total Recall was one of the most expensive films made ever at 50-60 million dollars? Today that's 90-108 million dollars.

I have no clue what they even spend this shit on. How was Hollywood able to make blockbusters for comparitively little in the 70's, 80's and 90's, even when adjusted for inflation compared to now?
>>
>>64280782
wew

And here I am, studying Bayesian Stat and Game Theory to help with MY OWN decision making. Truly I live among plebs.
>>
>>64279939
Who did they think was going to want to see this anyways? Fans of the original sure as hell aren't going to watch it.
>>
nostalgia fans, lovers of the originals and people going to see it to see how bad it is will make that money back, plus the parents having to chaperone their kids too.
>>
>>64281786

Presumably women, children and those nostalgic for the original.

But the nostalgic argument doesn't hold as the film is too different.

It could work if it had a more reasonable budget. 150 mil is in the same league as cape shit. Do they really think this will have as much appeal as Iron Man or even Thor?
>>
>>64280782
If that was true, they'd 180° their fucking movie as for now and would have keep going with the male version of GB.
>>
>>64279939
>Chris Hemsworth is the ghostbusters receptionist
>LOL BECAUSE WE'RE SWITCHING GENDERS FROM THE ORIGINAL GET IT?
And yet Hemsworth could take all four in a fight at once, yes including the silverback gorilla, and be a more effective ghostbuster than all of them combined

fuck this feminist pandering garbage
>>
It's times like this I almost wish I weren't fundamentally opposed to giving shit sjw clickbait sites like Buzzfeed and CBR traffic because I'm genuinely curious as to what excuses they can come up with for this movie's spectacular failure.
>>

Why is Hollywood so dumb? Even if this movie makes the same amount the first one did that isn't exceptional returns. That's a "financial disappointment"
>>

Well, what do you think?

Mad Max got 150M and made 376M. Think Ghostbusters will beat that?

Don't underestimate the power of shilling. When the movie is close to coming out, it'll get worse. Chris Hardwhick does it every chance he gets on his show. Wait till other hosts start.

Bill Murray does it for free becuse Sony lawyer army dug out some dirt on him to make him accept this piece of shits script treatment.
>>
>>64283225
No Bill Murray obviously wants to kill the IP so people will stop asking him to do more Ghostbusters and very well may with this pile of shit reboot.
>>
theoretically, how would /tv/ react if it was actually a good movie that understands why the original film worked without ripping it off wholesale, with likable characters that /tv/ winds up rooting for, and it flops?
>>
>>64282925
The gorilla is already confirmed to be a subway worker and only on the team because she saw the first ghost.
I really thought they would at least change the black character to be a bit more together with the rest of the team, it´s 2015 after all.

>>64283263
The leaked e-mails implied the lawyer army though. I think his contract said he would have the option to decline 3 treatments but has to accept the fourth offer no matter what or something.

>>64283276
As if, this is the same kind of rehash like Episode 7, Jurassic World and Avengers 2. Bigger = "Better" and they will keep doing it until they run this into the ground as well.
>>
>>64282242
it'll gross 100 mil max
>>
This is one of those movies where its sheer quality is going to determine how well it does at the box office. If it's actually a good, entertaining movie, it could be the hit of the summer. If it's mediocre or worse, it will probably flop.

Who the fuck actually gives a shit about Ghostbusters in a meaningful way these days? It's not like Star Wars. There hasn't been any Ghostbusters shit in more than 20 years, not a movie or a cartoon or anything.
>>
>>64283417
>As if, this is the same kind of rehash like Episode 7
inevitably, of course. but that wasn't the question. how would /tv/ react if the movie was actually good and then they got their wish of it flopping?
>>
It will do better than Star Trek
>>
>>64283651

The new Trek really does look awful.
>>
The Feig & Wiig duo made 288M with Bridesmaids. I guess the financing logic is that they'll get the Bridesmaids demographic back out in tandem with a capeshit-size ad campaign.

They're already getting a daily deluge of free, positive press from the #CONTENT web - so, who knows, maybe it will work.
>>
>>64283585
They already know it's not going to be good which is why it's in the late summer when everybody has already blown their load on the good movies released from May-July but maybe some people will still go see it just to get out of the summer sun. The new Fantastic Four movie was put in the same spot or the same reasons and still bombed
>>
>>64279939

God no. NO! There's no going back from this kind of stupidity. It's bad enough a movie's success is based almost solely of the first couple weeks it's out. I swear the people running the film industry don't know what the fuck they're doing anymore.

Star Wars Star Wars. Every Ghost Busters fan wants this dead.

>>64286051

That's a good point. The only people I've seen excited for this movie are people who don't actually care about Ghostbusters that much. These days, no matter the media, if it's big enough it's about telling the fans to fuck of by trying to appeal to casuals as much as possible. Granted, it makes sense. That's where the money is. It's just a shame that potential profits and artistic vision have to be at war with each other.
>>

>>64280782
I was in a private firm once. The firm was commissioned by Sony to conduct research on what movie market wants. Instead of us doing actual research where we ask a significant amount of total movie market. Which would be time consuming to converting them to numerical data. Sony instead given us proxy data collected from comments from various sources. 30% of it were from Youtube comments section s of Videos concerning movies and if I remember correctly 15% from popular tumblr posts?(i'm not sure) that talk about movies. The rest were websites that posts arcticles about movies.
There was not information that came from /tv/ unfortunately.
So its pretty obvious how they came to this kind of movie based on the data given to us.

>On the financial front, Rothman already has managed to tighten the budget on Paul Feig's all-female Ghostbusters, planned for July 2016, without any apparent bloodshed (despite earlier friction with Feig when the director made The Heat at Fox). The Ghostbusters price tag when greenlit by Pascal was a hefty $169 million, with rich deals for talent, including $14 million for Melissa McCarthy and north of $10 million for Feig. Rothman couldn't do anything about those fees, but sources say Feig made tweaks to the script to reduce the cost to $154 million — just a few million above Rothman's target of $150 million.

Winston was In the original film exactly for that reason. They wanted an "everyman" character who wasn't overly educated so when things are explained in simple terms to him or he is in turn relaying things to others it then also explains things to people in the audience.

The eternal conundrum of Hollywood. They are so desperate to ensure a profit that they will take any pre-existing source material for adaptation but in that same desperation they homogenize it into something that no longer resembles the source material meaning its original fan base won't like it and gambling on the larger lowest common denominator movie goers will fill their place which they usually don't. So in the end no one ends up liking it.

If All Female Ghostbusters is Bridesmaids or Pitch Perfect with Ghosts it'll fail, if it's more like Spy or any other action film with a female leads it'll do well for itself.

It'll make the money back easy from women as girlpower will be into overdrive by then and there really isn't a major movie after lady dollars this summer other than Alice in Wonderland 2.

Men will accept the film if the SFX and action is on point and the female humor isn't overbearing. but a 50/50 split in audience or better won't happen.

In the Heart of the Sea bombed hard.

I actually wanted to watch this until this moment. Dropped.

It's probably trying to go for the same "action comedy" capeshit movies do. All the pics they release they are trying to look "cool" and "badass", it will probably have lots of action.

Critics will probably love it because "muh strong woman", that's all that matters of course.

No. I wouldn't see this if someone was paying for me. Looks like an extended episode of Mike and Molly. Pure Aids

That's exactly why they got the ugliest women they could find, they don't want no straight white man enjoying this movie.

It's a female cast because Hollywood has no 4 good male actors that fit the role.

basically a woman's attractiveness to you or me is largely determined by whom we're comparing them in relation to, essentially arranged on a system of rungs one above the other like a ladder. Since she's in this movie with a gorilla, a whale and a hag when you look at pics of the four of them your brain is like "yeah she's not bad, in fact she's kinda hot actually" because she's just the least unattractive so your brain knows who go for if the situation arises or the continuation of the species is on the line. However if she were in a movie with like any other Hollywood actresses else you wouldn't look twice at her.

>Star Trek Beyond
Dude, even normies were unimpressed by that trailer. Itll probably make back its production budget but thats it
>Warcraft
Same thing. No one cared. Itll probably tank.
>TMNT
id love to see this flop but it wont. Itll do okay but still be absolute garbage
>Independence Day
The only real contender that isnt capeshit. The 20somethings and maybe even the 30somethings will definitely flock to the theaters in droves.
>Cap and Xmen
Both will make bank, Cap will be good but Xmen will probably be just as well received as DOFP

If anything, Ghostbusters will get something in the ballpark of 65-85% RT, and maybe make back its budget and then some.
>>
>>64288573

I'm inclined to agree to a point, but this movie already does look pretty bad. I'll hold any real judgment for when there's a trailer obviously.

Why did they turn movies into propaganda

Good cgi is expensive.
>>
>>64281693

Marketing and CGI I guess.

Practical effects were cheap as chips back in the day. Could make shit out of clay and old socks and make it look good.

Good example is the blood of the Predator, just KY jelly and glowstick liquid. Would cost like $5 for several takes worth.

I wonder how much CGI predator blood would cost?
>>
You people underestimate just how many fat women there are out there that will spend money on this movie.

See. This is what real feminism is about.
True equality.
Both men and women can be horrible at making movies and just ruin beloved franchises.

Even though far left jornalists may bitch and wine the studios only really care about numbers
>>
>>64291574
>fan designs
Uh. Those weren't fan designs. The original designs were for more women on the team, but the producers wanted more male characters because they were afraid boys wouldn't watch.

Good thing they changed it. Everyone knows having female characters for boys to watch is totally gay.
>>
>>64293641
> feminism is now just a cheap marketing gimmick for a shitty reboot by an idiotic movie studio close to bankrupting itself

This should be something anyone with a real interest in feminism would be offended by.

This is just more feminism and outrage for profit like the shit Anita pulls with her fake gaming channel bullshit.
>>
>>64297903
>Even though far left jornalists may bitch and wine the studios only really care about numbers
...and if they can get money by pretending their shitty reboot is some feminist statement, then they will put up that fake estrogen smokescreen to rake in bills.

Isn't it great when these greedy sleezebags can get dumb crazy leftists to fund their capitalist scam?
>>
>>64292690

Maybe that's because no one gives a shit about a big budget true story about Herman Melville and Moby Dick

>How was Hollywood able to make blockbusters for comparitively little in the 70's, 80's and 90's, even when adjusted for inflation compared to now?
It's almost like a lot of new technology was created towards the end of the 90's. Like before then, CGI on a large scale really wasn't a thing and now movies are incorporating it more and more.

Are you fucking retarded?

Just look at how long end-credits are then compared to now, and that will answer your question. You cannot be so stupid as to think there haven't been massive changes through each decade of movie making?
