Is it a just meme when people say they were scared during this scene? I don't believe that the are people who actually found it so scary that they jumped or felt spooked out. Its like non memetic skeleton tier scary
To reveal what the aliens look like, but in a distorted way that doesn't show TOO much. Just enough to spook you and let your imagination fill in the gaps.
It also establishes the Alien's camouflaging abilities, and helps further cement to the audience just how global this alien threat is beyond just showing a few maps of where saucers have appeared by showing us a glimpse of a family on the other side of the planet going through a very similar ordeal.
It's also a turning point for the story, because there are no longer any doubts in characters minds that this invasion thing is in fact legit.
Great scene, one of the best parts of the movie imo.
when will we get a legit adult movie about aliens being discovered and the consequences of that + aliens actually coming down and all the political and social problems it causes instead of going half way with it or go nowhere with it
like seriously

Thanks Sam. I'm glad someone else in this shit thread appreciates the greatness of this film.

This. The scenes where the aliens are breaking into the house and the creature grabbing the son in the basement wouldn't work nearly as well if they didn't show the creature at all until the final scene, but at the same time they found a way to reveal it in a satisfying way without spoiling too much for the finale.
Good shit.

I could be thinking of a different movie but was there a scene that showed a bird hitting one of their ships and falling to the ground?
>>64275370
The scene behind the door was 1000x spookier. Don't know what were they thinking.
>>64277858
>this whole post
Jesus fucking Christ

I like the angle of a fallen holy man battling demons, but I think it was more metaphorical than anything. There are obvious parallels, but I don't think they were LITERALLY demons from hell. Those little hints/nods were there more to help hammer in that he was a man battling his inner demons to help regain his faith.

>le travel millions of light years to attempt to inhabit planet that is toxic to your species flick
kill yourselves plebs. this was bottom of the barrel garbage

All of Shamalams movies operate within their own bubble that immediately bursts when outside logic is applied. For example, what was ghost Bruce Willis doing when he wasn't spending time with the kid? How did he fail to notice that no one could see or hear him? Did he never try to stop at a McDonald's or something?
