I actually almost met him once. One of my friends is a film critic and she had a paper to give him. She gave me his pro number to set up a meeting, i got him on the phone instantly, he sounded very chill and we were about to meet in Paris, but he never confirmed.

I Stand Alone was too edgy for its own good and lacked any clear direction.
Irreversible was a great movie but he tries too hard to shift between brutal and tender, it gets exhausting fast.
Enter the Void is a personal favorite, no complaints there except some pretentious elements (the sex montage at the end).
Love is the "art porn but mostly just porn" that I despise and makes me question what he's trying to do with his art.
I can't tell if he's a hack or not, it's really strange. EtV was an incredible movie though.

I met him back in 2009 in a screening of Enter the Void.
It was funny because I was high and drunk as fuck and as soon as I saw him in the theater chilling out with a girl I come up to him and hugged him like "IM YOUR BIGGEST FAN YOUR FILMS ROCK"

In case this isn't bait, the rape scene isn't supposed to be sexy, it's supposed to be disturbing (although to people like us who have been desensitized to it it probably does seem poorly done). Agree with you on Love though.
