The whole film was build around callbacks and parallels (I.e. rehashes), with Darth Angry explicitly emulating vader, the super mega death star (and trench run attack on it), and Lord Voldemort being the new Emperor. I love the way all his scenes are shot. JJ uses a combination of closeups with dutch and low angles to impart a sense of both unease and total dominance. There's a scene where he's walking on Starkiller and the shot is at such a low angle that it's almost under him, and all you see is his face filling up the entire screen as be moves as a pace that's technically walking but fast enough to be running. Compare that shit to the shot/reverse shot of almost every scene in the prequel trilogy.
I feel like TFA could have been really great if they used JJ to direct but hired a more competent writer for the script.

They did make him too comical, which is a big part of what made him less than intimidating. The scene where that officer comes up to report their failure to capture the droid and Kylo slowly turns his head to face him had the theater chuckling too. I didn't think it was necessarily meant to be funny, but people seem to laugh at everything.

The humor fit the tone of the movie. That first scene with the officer didn't make him any less intimidating. The fact that that officer is so frightened of him (which is where the humor of that scene stems from) made him appear stronger if anything. And that second scene with the stormtroopers happens after he takes off his mask and the film already tipped its hand that Ren is really just an insecure baby. Both scenes worked for me.
i really liked how they did the character overall, and was easily the best character in the film.
he had some new force abilities like stopping that laser and just freezing people. Also had the ability to actually look into peoples thoughts and read there minds which was pretty interesting. He's obviously not the best with a lightsaber but his force capabilities are exceptional.

I thought the lightsaber fight between Kylo and Finn was great. I'm kinda confused why he didn't just force slam him a tree like he did with Rey. I guess you could say he was really emotional or something but thats a lame excuse

Yeah, Boyega was actually really good because he actually had flaws. Rey had to much plot armor but I can excuse it if they expand on her more in the next movie. Rey turning dark and Ren turning good would be a nice twist.

That being said, I can't really see what the waifufags see in Rey's appearance.
He was so fucking cool during those first few scenes. Stoping the laser shot, reading people's mind and seeing their weakness without even trying, being one with the dark force etc.

Shes either going to end up being Han and Leias long lost daughter, or shes going to be Lukes daughter. This is probably closer to what the twist will be. Memory loss and she used to be evil and Luke saved her from Snoke and adopted her or she was Lukes daughter and Luke trained her but after what happened to Kylo Ren Luke wipes her memory and leaves her on Jakku to ensure what happened to Kylo doesn't happen to Rey.
