Which is better?
TFA
It had good lead acting
>>64253882
Force Awakens.
Revenge is the second worst in the series.
>>64253882
Tough. Both are good but completely different films.
The Force Awakens is a solidly and competently made sci fi action with all around good characters, scenes, dialogue and music, however it possess very little memorable scenes, for it does not attempt to stand out. It is an overall good but not great movie.
Revenge of the Sith meanwhile, is the best prequel, where there is an enormous amount of conflict, drama and characterization revolving around the transformation of Anakin Skywalker to Darth Vader, as well as the fall of the Republic and transformation into the dreaded evil Empire that we all know. It tries to stand out and does possess some memorable scenes. The movie is overall good, however it is flawed with clunky sometimes cringeworthy dialogue, bad acting, and excessively overused weak cgi.
I would give a very slight edge to ROTS because it has more heart poured into it, but TFA is more solid in terms of how it was made.
>>64253882
3 definitely has better memes, all 7 has yielded so far is TRAITOR and TELATTAKANJIKLUB
maybe if we give it 10 years...
>>64253909
When did acting in a Star Wars film become important?
>>64253882
Revenge of the Sith
Force awakens was good but that was it. There was not a single special or outstanding thing about it, whereas Revenge of the Sith certainly has its low points, but unlike TFA it has some pretty great high points that finally lived up to the potential greatness the prequels had.
In the final battle with Anakin and Obi Wan there was emotion, and there was tension. When Finn and Rey fought Kylo Ren it was a good fight but there was nothing special about it, no stand out moment, and most importantly, no fucking drama. ROTS was not perfect and it has some pretty awful parts but the good outweighs the bad and it certainly makes for a more enjoyable experience than watching TFA's bland effort.
>>64253882
it's irrelevant as neither is a good film.
but Sith is at least worth watching for the ideas and the decent plot arc. TFA is literally not worth bothering with.
>>64253926
>putting TPM above RotS
The Force Awakens, obviously.
>>64253882

TFA took an old and recycled and unoriginal and shallow idea and made made it effectively, magical, fun, with good acting, dialogue, that's a joy to watch
ROTS took and interesting original and deeply developed idea and made it a a cringe worthy slow droll with awkward scenes, awkward monotone dialogue, had acting, and terrible pacing

Sorry, might've exaggerated. I just mean to say that nostalgia goggles affect 70s children and 90s children alike, that's all.
>>64254666

>>64254392
this
memes aside, Palpatine is the best character in the whole saga
7 had practical effects which ultimately looks better than cgi all over the place and may be better paced specially considered as a standalone movie. But it brought nothing new to the star wars universe aside from (until now) underdeveloped unidimensional characters (aside maybe from Ben), "star wars for the le new generation" and more tentacle porn.
3, on the other hand, brought the conclusion to a story that had already been developed two films before. So, even if its somewhat slow, it has more space for moments of its own and to tie some loose ends between prequels and OT.
In short, 7 is better as a standalone film but 3 brought more to the star wars universe
>>64254729
7 is a horrible standalone.
I can't even.
>>64254729
Episode 7 had some really bad practial effects.
The bird, and the portions guy to note.

TFA is only better than unedited clone wars. If you strip out the garbage romance subplot from TCW then TFA is the worst by far. Abrams can't into cinematography script or action. He's trash.

>>64255154
I guess you are right in that most patrician Star Wars fans are muh nostalgia manchildren that TFA pandered to in the absence of taking any kind of risk or new direction.
TFA is worse than all the original movies (being just a glossy greatest hits compilation of them anyway) and arguably worse than Episode III.
It was an offensively lazy film that did nothing but pander.
>>64255149

The Force Awakens is the Rocky Balboa of Star Wars films

VII, though both are rather dull. III is more entertaining thanks to McDiarmid's scenery-chewing, but VII is much more competently assembled. Neither are very good.

The prequels are infused with a bold vision of artistic profundity that eclipses the likes of generic sci-fi movies of recent times. The streamlining process that has begun to creep into the production of every slightly sci-fi-y tinged movie has created an amorphous blob of mediocrity and blandness. The prequels deliver a basic premise of good vs. evil but do it so by utilizing characters that are endowed with humanity. Aside from the storytelling aspect the prequels stand strong on all fronts, from writing, cinematography and set pieces that truly immerse you into a fantastic world full of wonder and awe. It is infinitely unfortunate that this behemoth of a film project is marred by the majority of the populace's inability to assess the genius and lack of intelligence. One can only hope that in eons to come, evolution will have worked in ways as to ensure and maximize the distribution of the gene that thrives in the intellectual minority of our time so that future generations and civilizations will be able to grasp the grandeur of the prequels and see behind the masquerading illusion that is reddit.
I have about as much respect for The Force Awakens as I do for the dog shit on my shoe.
It is reddit, it is capeshit, it is cheeto dust, it is video games. It's nothing more than memes enjoyed by simplistic pledditors. I have ZERO respect for people who are not free thinkers and blindly enjoy the reddit memes that comprise Cuck Wars: The Search for More Money.

The Prequel Trilogy Universe >>>>>>> TFA Universe
The movies are a mess but at least they have neat details and there is some creativity flowing in the world that made them interesting by default.
TFA was a better movie than the bunch, but the world itself is just so bland and just a marvelfied version of episode 4.
>>64256515
TFA is literally SJW the movie.
>>64256353
There was only one villain in ANH that actually does shit and lives to see another day.
TFA supposedly has 3 villains of which we only see one which ends up disgraced, beaten and probably dead (probably the chick storm trooper died too?). Maul was also only given one fighting sequence then gets cut in half.
They are pretty equal and both really good, but TFA edges it out by a hair.
Episode 3 was great. It's strong point is that it is so obviously better than the other prequels and fit in neatly with the OT unlike the others. It's also pretty hard to fuck up the climax of Darth Vader becoming Darth Vader when everyone is looking forward to it. Episode 1 and 2 were just shitty buildups to 3, which is why they sucked so much and why 3 was so good.
Episode 7 was also good. It has the best storytelling and cinematography of any Star Wars film while still staying quintessentially Star Wars. Since it's been so long since 6, they had to introduce fresh characters, which they did well at memes aside, except for Kylo Ren. It had much, much less CGI than the prequels, while still retaining classic Star Wars chestnuts, resulting in a more genuine and authentic Star Wars. All while bringing back all of the main characters fans know and love, resulting in a truly great film. Something about the cinematic experience of TFA puts it above Sith, even though they are both good. Sith doesn't get enough credit, and TFA is only 2% better than it.

TFA is competently made at the very least. It's not shot like a stageplay, the acting is good, the ground battles are well staged, it has a descent mise-en-scene. Even a mildly serviceable movie is better than the worst of the prequels.

>>64255499
I can dig it. RotS is a lot of fun, much more so than ANH.
The prequels were much better written, they had actual characters and story, not a bunch of memes and one-liners that lack any emotion or coherence. Luke is a cliched everyboy "hero" that goes through an absurdly rapid transformation between the fifth and the sixth episodes. Anakin's emotional instability and his exposure as a psychopath are gripping; and his doomed relationship with Padme is touching. In the "original trilogy" Han, Leia, Darth Vader and Obi Wan are complete meme characters, nothing about them is remotely believable or human. And why doesn't anyone care about deaths in those movies? Leia's planet destruction, Luke's stepparents' death, all of the blown up rebels--the list could go on--all the deaths are forgotten moments later.
As for direction, the movies from the "original trilogy" were mostly incoherent, badly edited and full of logical problems. The prequel trilogy is a work of a "vulgar auteur".
I feel neutral about the series overall, and honestly don't care about trolling or contrarianism. Here are my sincere rankings:
1. "Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones"
2. "Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace"
3. "Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith"
4. "Star Wars"
5. "The Empire Strikes Back"
6. "Return of the Jedi"
7.
8. "The Force Awakens"
Episode 7 isn't even a Star Wars movies. It is a Marvel flick masquerading as one.
TFA is just ANH with like 10 new major plot holes added, improved CGI, a nigger C3PO, a ball shaped R2, an even girlish Luke bad actres, a goofy looking Vader and a dozen other characters no one cares about.

The only thing the prequels did of note regarding acting is to get terrible performances out of exceptionally talented people
>>64258683
confirmed for not knowing what acting is.
>>64258522
Visually, yes. Acting wise? Hayden and Natalie aren't suited for conventional roles like go. Take a look at their other movies and their more stellar performances are with characters that are much more grounded in the real world (They can't be blamed though since they were casted in the early portion of their careers). Samuel L. Jackson suffers a similar problem; he performs best when he's completely losing his shit but was casted as a wise man.
Lee could have been feeling but was wasted in playing a shoe-horned villain (we didn't even know what he was casted to play as considering his character is such a piece of wood).
Ian McDiarmid and Ewan McGregor are the only two casting choices that are absolutely on point.
>>64258909
*Allegedly* Hayden could do a more convincing Anakin, but Lucas Lucased and took the emotion out of it.

I can't compare the prequels to TFA. The prequels are clearly very profoundly flawed films, but the artistry, craft and vision behind them is truly admirable. TFA is the complete opposite, being highly enjoyable and mostly competent but also a soulless endeavour with none of the integrity of the rest of the saga.
The things the prequels did well are way greater than anything TFA accomplished, but it's pretty hard to reconcile that with how incredibly terrible the acting/dialogue/CGI is.

The prequels were good ideas with terrible execution, TFA is just a reboot of the OT with some new characters and special effects, it's just like the special editions but taken to a whole new level, old fans will nitpick over the stupidest of things but it's basically just a major face lift to appeal to the younger audiences that grew up learning to hate the prequels, are used to Michael Bay's over the top special effects and JJ's mindless action.

The teaser was awesome though because it establishes him as a badass. Then when he comes on next you know he's going to be badass again, but then he rads it up even more with the second blade. The force has returned to its original form from the OT.
You don't need to spend years training with the force to be proficient with it anymore. You either have it or you don't, and even if you do, you're not a walking tank just because you have it.

Not really. Luke was with Yoda for a couple of weeks and could barely float rocks competently. Rey goes from unbeliever to mind tricks in like an arvo.
All the prequel babbies in this thread that think you need excessive "training" to be proficient in the force.
Prequel logic is a cancer on this series and even though TFA goes out of its way to distance itself from the prequels you kids are still using prequel logic to back up complaints about "muh lack of training".
It's like you've never watched the original trilogy.
>>64262663
>uninteresting, unrelatable, and clearly a product of shoehorned feminist agendas
That's more a problem of perspective on your behalf rather than a flaw of the movie. All female leads nowadays are Mary Sue like characters to compensate for their lack of innate physical strength, intelligence, etc, it's basically the new trend. Just like fast paced action flicks that don't let you catch your breath and think about the plot for a second is also becoming a trend.
You need to judge things for what they are in accordance to their context (TFA is just a modern reboot), not for what you wish they were.

Dude, just shut up. Why would they launch an attack that required precision 90 degree turns? It even looks like the torpedo falls I altitude before going in. Plus the other guy who shot (almost there!) almost hit it too.
I think it's pretty obvious the forces influence here was minimal, because it helped Luke do something that was possible, but really difficult. Rey beating a sith lord, is fucking impossible, given what we've been told about her, and everything we can realistically infer about her.

That's why I said I'm not sure about that one, some people speculate the targeting system was flawed due to that turn so the mission was destined to fail from the beginning, only Luke could have made that shot with the aid of the force. But whatever, I don't care about such speculation.
On the other hand Rey beating the shit out of some emotionally unstable and deadly injured wimp after getting some confidence and a "Force" bump is not impossible at all, realistically we only see some wannabe Vader edgelord with delusions of grandeur but which is basically just a whiny little bitch that gets hit by a fucking Sasquatch for being distracted, gets almost beaten by a nigger and ends up getting his ass kicked by a girl. He's no Sith Lord, he's a fucking travesty.
