It's funny, when Smith first started I liked his Doctor but it was kind of obvious he wasn't that great of an actor. Then he somehow got some talent between series 6 and 7. The quality of writing wasn't at it's best, but his acting helped carry some of those stories. Like Akhaten speech, which was a stupid idea for a stupid episode but still had an emotional impact because of him.

Finally started watching the Eccleston run as a doctor, then moving on to Tennant.
Not as bad as I thought it would be, but only 2 episodes in. I hope Rose's boyfriend doesn't become a recurring character, he's annoying. And the CGI is really outdated. Rose is mediocre looking but also attractive. It's weird. The Doctor is pretty cool. Not really defined as a character yet.
Sucks that I know most of the major events that's going to happen so the emotional impact of some episodes won't be there.
Any horrible episodes that I should just skip?

In fact, she speculates that it's down to her giving him regeneration energy in Let's Kill Hitler. In The Husbands of River Song, she won't even consider the idea and doesn't realize Twelve is the Doctor.

In Husbands, River last met the Doctor in Manhattan.
River is a professor in Diary, and has both a sonic trowel and a sonic screwdriver (though not necessarily the Doctor's).
In Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead, River says that the last time she met a Doctor from Ten's future was Husbands.
So either between the end scene of Wedding and Manhattan, which would mean she's had a sonic screwdriver and trowel since before Husbands, or between Husbands and Silence.
Although we know River almost definitely never met the Doctor after Husbands from his perspective, she could have met pre-Ten versions any number of times after Husbands before she died.
