Is it a myth that the Varangians were like hired thugs for Kiev to use against the East? It seems as though that is how it's disseminated in the West.
How did that process of integration happen? I'd be more interested in seeing that dramatized than watching flaming spears move across the screen. Maybe I'm a minority in that, I don't know.

Kievan Rus, late 10th century. After the death of his father, Svyatoslav I, ruler of Kievan Rus, the young Viking prince Vladimir (Danila Kozlovsky) is forced into exile across the frozen sea in Sweden to escape his treacherous half-brother Yaropolk (Aleksandr Ustyugov), who has murdered his other brother Oleg (Kirill Pletnyov) and conquered the Viking territory of Kievan Rus. The old warrior Sveneld (Maksim Sukhanov) convinces Vladimir to assemble a Varangian armada, hoping to reconquer Kiev from Yaropolk and ultimately face the mighty Byzantine forces.[3][4]
I suggest you also watch Night Watch/Day Watch, urban fantasy action packed films with some really good visuals, though, it is not for everybody

The books are more cerebral, but the film are great action stories with agrressive visuals.

That would work as some mini series in the vain of Dostojevskij from 2011, but set in middle ages, not a blockbuster.
