Only normies buy streaming boxes because they can't figure out how to put their computer on a screen.

It's easy to hook up a computer via HDMI but my computer and TV aren't in the same room.
>>
>>64230962
Normies live in houses. No their mom basements.
>>
>>64231014
Right. I have a Roku and it connects to my tv with HDMI.
>>
>>64231014
By anything ever you mean a computer?
>>
>>64231042
Yes and they use their laptop in their living room.
Your point?
>>
>>64230904
There is literally nothing wrong with using Chromecast.
>>
>having your computer in the living room

Oh wait you don't have a living room you live in your dad's old cuck shed
>>
Not really.

They're very convenient for people who have essentially replaced their physical media with streaming video.

Also, they're not expensive enough to be a massive con. I got my chromecast for only $35. If you're not unemployed, $35 really isn't much to spend on a permanent replacement for your DVD or blu-ray player.
>>
>>64230962
>because they can't figure out how to put their computer on a screen.

I wonder where this comes from?

Too poor to spring for a box? Too proud of yourself for using an HDMI cable?

It's convenient. Why bother? Turn on the tv and boom- browse Hulu, Netflix, HBO, Youtube queue, listen to your music or start a radio station, rent a movie if you so choose, watch PBS, or play the media you have on your computer. And much more.

They're so cheap these days it's silly to try to hold out like some PC master race.
>>
>>64230904
So I can buy an HDMI cable to connect my PC directly to my TV, or I can buy a $30 dongle that plugs into the HDMI port on the TV.

There is literally just a few dollars difference in the price of an HDMI cable that long and a Chromecast. Chromecast does not require me to drape a cable around the room or through my house.

How poor are you?
>>
>>64230962
Actually not the reason, bro.
>>
>>64231136
Laptops are equally as cheap...
You can just buy a spare one with an HDMI port and use that.
>>
>>64231082
I guess Google got it spot on but the rest are just a scam. They totally play down the subscription/rental fees just to sell a usless plug-in device
>>
>>64231136
>B-b-but I can do that all from my computer

Except it will look shittier, there's no comfortable way to have a mouse set up on the couch, and you will also have to keep a full fucking computer in your living room.

Or you could pay $40-$80 and have an almost invisible device that does all the same stuff except it has a nice GUI instead of 20 different pieces of software

>>64231198
>laptops are $35

>>
>>64231136
Most people don't have their computer 20 ft from their tv. It's also a lot more convenient to use a remote rather than a mouse. These are the reasons, if you don't find them important then it's not for you, but a lot of people do.
>>
>>64231268
There's no subscription for Apple TV
>>
>>64231294
>Android computer don't exist

Okay, pal.
>>
>>64231198
>You can just buy a spare one with an HDMI port and use that.

This is getting silly. You'd rather buy a separate laptop and just have it up there sitting next to your computer than just spring for a roku/chromecast/apple tv/etc?

It's cheap, it's convenient, it's feature rich. Yes, most normies don't fuck w/ HDMI, who cares? It's good to use sometimes, but a box is the new norm, and effortlessly easy.
>>
>>64231198
>Having a laptop on the floor and a bunch of cables
People don't want their homes to look like a mess, anon.
and
Those streaming boxes go for like 30 to 70 bucks. And if you want a PC on your TV, just buy a computer stick or something similar.
Not a cheap trash laptop, you idiot.
>>
My video game player already does that though. I use my phone as a remote.

gee I wonder which one consumes the most power

Also I wouldn't even say it's about power, it's about convenience.
Even if I wanted to move my PC into my living room, I'd just be running Plex's interface anyway.
May as well run the android TV version.
Plus the microphone on the remote makes it normie proof.

I have a custom built desktop pc, and a thinkpad laptop. how is that relevant? I can do a lot more on my pc+tv setup than any of these scamboxes you people buy.

most people have a desktop a laptop and a scambox.
A laptop is not at all convenient, you're either getting up to set it up or you're investing in a home theater remote that costs half or all as much as a scambox anyway.
Laptops are also not at all designed for fullscreen TV viewing.
You can install Kodi on them and buy a remote but then you've just got a heat producing, power sipping scambox and switching to providers not integrated into Kodi is now a problem.

I just use my PS4 though. Wish I could control the apps with the iPhone app though.
>>
>>64232625
you can control your ps4's youtube app, with your smartphone
>>
>>64232670
Yea and it's great, wish the other apps devs put that into their features. Even Spotify on the ps4 can be controlled by the in phone app.

What's the deal with "jailbroken" fire sticks and apple tvs? Do you really get fre hbo and netflix and ufc ppv? Or do they just give you access to bootleg streaming sites?

my normie uncle thinks its the legit HBO ppv but I suspect it just gives you access to streams

I did it for the wireless capabilities. Two things were stopping me from properly executing the "chill" portion of netflix and chill, and they were a lack of wireless capabilities and autism. This at least fixes the wireless part.
>>
>>64233363
I meant actual japanese channels not on demand shows. I only watch one show and it ain't no ching chong drama

I have a macbook pro that doesnt have IR

Can anyone recommend a good remote/keyboard that works with a usb dongle? I want to sit on my couch and be able to enter urls and also pause VLC.

The AppleTV does a lot. Has a lot of channels/apps, and the Airplay feature is pretty nifty

15 Year olds with mommy bought PC's on suicide watch.
>>
>>64236597

Admittedly I'm biased as the last gen AppleTV, before these new ones, is the only one i've owned, but I love it. And it's cheap now.

Forgot to mention some apps to offer live tv, ESPN has a lot of NBA games and playoff games, probably other sports too.
>>
Would one of these be worth it if you already have a PS3 since it plays Netflix, Hulu, etc?
>>
>>64236712
depends what you want it to do. PS3 is good enough for all your legal streaming services tbqh.
>>
>>64232797
X box just has a remote for their app that works with everything except gameplay.

Pretty convenient.
