Just finally watched it today and I just cannot understand all the praise it has gotten. It really weirds me out. The whole thing was just Red Dwarf Back to Earth all over again. The moment the film fell apart for me was when Rey and Finn run onto the OPEN DOOR OF THE MILLENIUM FALCON AND SEAMLESSLY PILOT IT AWAY. Remember how hard it was in A New Hope for Luke to get off Tatooine? But here, it just goes into full fucking fan fiction impossible shit in order to get us to the next CGI rehash of an old scene. From that point onward the film collapsed into senseless fan service, unclear motivations and hack clichés. I actually completely agree with the "glib facsimile" guy. It's not a meme, the film totally is a glib facsimile.
The things I liked were: the Scottish guy coming to collect Solo's debts and wanting to kill him. Kylo Ren was a great villain. You just know that if they played it straight and they made everyone as afraid of him as they were of Vader, it wouldn't have been believable.
Instead, they made him great in his own right. He wants to go against everything his parents stand for like any young adult. His insecurity makes him enraged. This already gives him more character and makes him more hateable than Vader was in IV.
That was enough for me, but then they threw out a surprise and made him actually frighteningly brutal and scary in the last fight. Had he been like that the whole movie, it would have been too much, but had he been stoic, he would have been boring. Even if you didn't like him, it's a miracle that they made him as good as they did with the giant juggling act this movie was always going to be.

If Luke didn't see Obi Wan die he would've been willing to stay behind to help him. So he sacrificed himself to the force in order to help Luke redeem his father and bring balance to the force.
