THORV, besides the village at the beginning and the fact that it's christmas day at the restaurant (both being completely irrevelant to the plot), has nothing christmassy about it. So what's the point in keeping them?
Pros:
-Not trapped in some "silly romp and good feelings for all the family" theme that can limit stories, which also clashes with the dramatic tone of the season finale from merely one month ago.
-Make episode numbering clearer since christmas specials are still considered to be the episodes zero of a new season despite the fact that, again, they air one month after the end of the previous season and a year before the next episode of their own season, which is stupid.
-Christmas specials are usually the spots used to tell the last stories of an era, such as regenerations. Why should the Doctor always die on the 25th of december or the 1st of january?

Are you aware of the torch wood season 5 thing anon? Rtd planned out the official series 5 as an audio years ago with big finish. These current series are just for fun, eventually we'll get the legit new series

Im not sure I want a new series, after miracle day I think I'd just prefer the fun stories that take place before they started dying.
Has RTD given any details about what direction itd take? If we get a Children of Earth tier series I'll forgive him, but really anything less than that and itd be a bit iffy
