>you just have to watch the first 70 episodes before it picks up

why do animefags keep doing this and putting themselves through such torture of watching 150 episodes before it supposedly even starts to get good.

now I am hearing about this one punch man show, is the same shit with that one where I am expected to watch 200 episodes before the good arc starts cos fuck that shit.

You will never even scratch the surface of what literature has to offer you dumb weeaboo

There will never be an anime which reaches the beauty in style and substance of say Ulysses or War and Peace or Infinite Jest.

Anything you watch, that isnt in your interest zone, will never be interesting.
You like

It's that simple.
Watch one fight anime, if you like it you will watch more, if not im sure you will want to stop watching, Else you have some autismo in your genes / a bad way to enjoy your time on this earth.

If you hate tomato, it wont taste better after each bite, but your mind can become dull against your flavour in regards of galning nutrients, as well if you have too much free time you can overcome the fact that you Arent entertained, but you dont really have time picking at your neck. This is bullshit. Watching things outside your comfort zone can be surprising. I thought I hated war films, recently I watched Saving Private Ryan and I really enjoyed it.

One Punch Man is nice because it's a massive parody of traditional shonen shit. In this, he's already at the top, so there's absolutely no actual threat towards him beyond marginal shit like being late for bargain day at the supermarket. The show derives most of it's humor from this fact, considering where he lives is continually raided by monsters and shit.

you don't have to do everything at once. take your time.

There's a group called One Pace that actualy does this - cut out all the garbage parts of the series and make it more true to the source manga.

One Piece has been going on for like 15 years and it's roughly one chapter every two weeks - 811 chapters total as of today. The series is insanely popular in Japan and the anime's been going on for over 10 years, so there's the source manga episodes + stretched out episodes + filler when they ran out of source issues to cover.

This isn't just an anime thing. It's a television thing.

It's exactly why I don't usually watch tv drama with a 45 minute time slot. Just watching two episodes already last as long as a feature length film, so why not just watch a fucking film and get the entire story within a reasonable amount of time?
>>
>>64136793

>so why not just watch a fucking film

Because the emotional pay-off you get from a good tv show or anime blows the fuck out any fucking movie. There's only so much plot or character development you can put into 2 hours without hurting the film's pace, period. Having said that, cinema is still a superior art form, precisely because those 2 short hours can be refined to perfection, whereas any series is bound to have slow or weak parts and other budget constraints.

So who would believe how true Umaru is at home? Sleeping, gaming, watching TV, eating junk food, drinking cola… that's almost all she does at home, leaving all the housework to her brother. Her camouflage is so perfect that when one of her classmates visits her home by surprise and witnesses “true Umaru," she pretends as if she is Umaru's younger sister. Taihei is always swayed by Umaru's gap between ostensible face and spoiled life, but he cannot hate his comical and somehow lovable cute little sister! (Source: Crunchyroll)"

Those who "rate anime harshly" are casual viewers who just want something that's as close as possible to American TV or American sensibilities, and they're not even aware of the existence of most anime.

And there is no such thing as "seasonal trash." All TV anime is "seasonal" since the year is divided into seasons.

The only redeeming factor of OPM is the animation which accounts for 100% of that 6/10 score, why do you think it's so good instead?

When rating anime this is how I score it:

10/10 = if I showed this to a respectable movie director he'd fall in love and probably want to direct a live action movie or tv series based on it
9/10 = if I showed this to my dad he would finally understand why I lose all my time watching anime
8/10 = if I showed this to any people in my family or any respectable intellectual friends I have I wouldn't be utterly embarassed

Rather I like anime but I also like video games, genre fiction, literature, art, philosophy, music, comics, movies, tv series and shitposting so it has to compete with all these mediums for my interest. Approaching individual piece of media relative to everything I experienced in entertainment instead of only related media inside an individual medium guarantees that my tastes overall don't stagnate. Rating everything from a "if I show this to someone else how would they judge it/does this have enough complexity or artistic merit that I could convience anyone this piece of media is good " stand point is a form to stimulate critical thinking and socialization, after all I'm not wasting all my time watching 3/10 harem anime.

LOGH 'elitism' is so 2009. It's a decent show that doesn't take advantage of the medium it uses. Granted, it is an adaptation but look at stuff like Ping Pong, Tatami Galaxy or the 99 version of Hunter x Hunter to see how to do an adaptation right and much importance visual direction have on anime. If you judge it on writing and narrative alone, it's nothing special beyond its lofty ambitions.

As I said, I don't judge anime only against other anime, but to all mediums of storytelling. The reality is that when you do this there are a handful of anime every season that manage to entertain (5/10 ~ 7/10), but it's very rare to see an anime innovate considerably or nail execution, and even rarer to achieve both at the same time, which is what it takes for me to score an 8/10+ (and I'm not being overly strict towards only anime) and what really should be taken into consideration when recommending anime to completely strangers (so you can spare the embarassment of recommending Kill la Kill to someone you just met).

Imagine that someone points to a scifi novel and says: "What a piece of garbage! It's just pandering to scifi fans!" You would think he's retarded, because obviously there are not just people who enjoy reading scifi, but also writing it. That's just common sense.

Anime isn't any different, except it comes from a foreign culture and most Westerners don't like it and aren't the target audience. But instead of recognizing this fact they instead start whining about "pandering." No self-respecting person would ever seriously make something like K-On, so they must be just "pandering" for the sake of making money (but wait, if there are people who enjoy reading/watching that stuff then shouldn't there also be people who enjoy making it...? Oh well, better not think too hard about it).

And that's why pandering is a myth.

>it's very rare to see an anime innovate considerably or nail execution
But movies and books are simply bursting at the seams with a constant stream of bold new ideas with nary a sign of formula and repetition.

Not that innovation means anything by itself. Something can be innovative and also bad. Likewise, something can be derivative and also good. A lot of Westerners are obsessed with novelty for novelty's sake and keep talking endlessly about "innovation" like it was a sure sign of quality and its absence a sure sign of shittiness.

>and what really should be taken into consideration when recommending anime to completely strangers
