How is that Oscar bait? It was pretty enjoyable.
>>
Room, Hateful Eight, and Bridge of Spies
>>
>>64123505
EVERYTHING IS OSCAR BAIT
ALL FEMALE CHARACTERS ARE MARY-SUES
>>
>>64123409
Anyone else seen Spotlight? It was great, never seemed like it tried hard acting wise with the ensemble cast, Keaton was way better in it than in Birdman.
>>
>>64123596
Birdman was an exaggerated version of himself. No real acting.
>>
>>64123409
Timbuktu is from 2014.
>>
When was the last time a comedy could be considered among the best of films for a given year?

Carol is good for blatant boners in the middle of a theater. Felt great. I made sure to splay my legs for maximum erection real estate.
>>
>>64123409
>What We Do In The Shadows

That's the complete opposite of Oscar Bait.
>>
>>64123596
It was indeed great, the onlytime i felt it was forced was when Ruffalo goes off in the office.
And yes Keaton was a lot better in here.
>>
>>64123798
midnight in paris 2011 i guess
>>
>>64123901
I want to see this movie in 4k...or at least in better quality than the screener.
>>
What's that tranny movie called?
That guy who played Hawkins will win another Oscar with his tranny role
>>
Mad Max not on the list?
>>
>>64123409
>Carol
Enjoyable period drama with one pretty hawt lesbian sex scene, 7/10.
>Gett
Surprisingly riveting court drama/comdey, a little bit cartoonish, 9/10
>Assassin
An artsy director is forced to make a dumb wuxia film, the result is confusing, 5/10.
>Room
>Phoenix
>Brooklyn
Oscar bait as it is - frustrating crap, 0/10.
>>
>>64124028
The Danish Girl. Hopefully Faggy Redmayne won't win, but it's a bad year for mens performances anyways.
>>
>>64123798
how is juno a comedy ? it's a sad story
>>
>>64124065
>tfw the Academy creates a best transgender role because of this movie
>>
>>64124074
it was written as a comedy, drama, romance and is pretty funny at times
>>
>>64124065
Leo's performance didn't live up to the hype? I haven't watched The Revenant myself, honestly just curious.
>>
How is the big short
>>
>>64124150
Honestly, hes done better.
>>
>>64124150
it did but people won't admit due to the le contrarian teve meme
>>
>>64124155
It features 4th wall breaking narration that set a couple off.

And the Mark Baum side story seems kind of tacked on so Steve Carrel had a chance to ACT in the film.
>>
>>64124189
name a few examples
>>
>>64124208
Thought he was better in "The Wolf of Wall Street", for example.

It wasnt a stellar performance, thats for sure, but as the other anon said, he might get it given the lack of competitors.

The Oscars are stupid because the voters are braindead.

>>
>>64124197
So worth watching?
>>
>>64123409
I've watched the Revenant
and Sicario in the past 2 days
which one should I watch next family?
One that isn't shite would be best
>>
>>64124416
Spotlight if you haven't already.
>>
>>64123708
I don't know why people are praising it so much
Is it just because it looked pretty, had a female lead and was about Chinese history?
>>
>>64124293
This is closer to the truth than I'd like.
The fact is that the oscars ballot voters are middle aged narcissicistic industry members who somehow made that far up in hollywood.

Which is why the winners tend to be more and more about acting and hollywood itself.

Anyone trying to win an oscar is doing so for a payrise. It isn't truly worth shit and has nothing to do with a love of the craft.
>>
>>64123409

>Ex Machina
>oscar bait

came out way too early in the year and scifi never does well at the oscars

might go see the big short, its getting good reviews and it might be fun seeing bale and goslin act like goofballs
>>
>>64123409
I watched Spotlight and Ex Machina. Both had good performances but I prefer EM.
Spotlight had a really generic presentation. I just don't see the big deal over it. The characters were all archetypes we've all seen a hundred times.
EM was more visually captivating and had better characters.
But /tv/ isn't allowed to like EM or MM:FR anymore because they got high scores on IMDB and Reddit.
>>
>>64123409
Ex Machina is not Oscar bait at all. It's actually not a worth seeing film.

The Big Short is kinda Oscar bait. Something about the haircuts feels off in this movie. Christian Bale will probably be nominated first, and maybe maybe Steve Carell.

I haven't seen the others yet.
>>
>>64124610
>archetypes
Realistic archetypes.
Unlike Ex Machina's "lel I'm an Eric Schmidt/super genius man".
>>
>>64124370
yes.
>>
>>64123409
Timbuktu was already nominated last year you dumb fuck.
>>
>>64124293
>voters are braindead
Voters are professionals, dummy.
>>
>>64124822
Professional dummies, braindead dummy.

"Whiplash is offensive — it’s a film about abuse and I don’t find that entertaining at all. My kid would have told me if he had an abusive teacher. I would have sat in on the class, talked to other kids in the class and then said, “This asshole has to go."

Yes, you don't vote for a film because you find a character offensive. Professionals indeed.
>>
>>64124916
You have to accept the fact that literally any Academy member knows cinema better than you do.
>>
>>64123409
So what screeners are out?
Is the big short screener out yet?
>>
Rams
>>
>>64125066
Based off of what? The title of the individual? Jesus this generation is getting progressively more retarded.
>>
>>64125328
>getting
When it comes to media, film enthusiasts have always been pretty retarded.
>>
>>64125328

Hang around some actual elite and you'll realize they're just as full of shit as you are.

>Bales as an awkward aspie
These characters never get you an award.

The Big Short is fun, but also really hard-hitting. You'll won't walk out of the theater feeling good, but entertained nonetheless and a better person for watching it

What makes a movie Oscar Bait?

>>
>>64123409
Timbuktu was last year, it was in the Oscars for 2014
Saw Ex Machina and has no Oscar chance. Maybe for some production design or shit like that, but it wasn't even that good.
Anomalisa isn't oscar bait at all, non-Disney/Pixar animation movies never win.
>>
>>64123409
>What We Do In The Shadows (2015)
>Ex Machina (2015)
You don't know what Oscar bait is.
>>
>>64127743
Set and costume design should go to Crimson Peak.
>>
>>64127687
Whatever you don't like in the season :)
>>
>>64123409
Why isn't TFA listed? It brought a rather refreshing reboot to Star Wars
>>
>>64127936
because it was predictable trash that did nothing for cinema
>>
>>64127687
Anything with minorities or that show how deep and complex people from the show business are, also they are release towards the end of the year
