Its sad that his biomechanical style for ALIEN become so well known that everyone wanted him to keep doing that. Giger was hired for movies after ALIEN and they ended up not using stuff he submitted and just hired people who did art in his style instead.

I've read about people who collaborated with him on projects that Giger would sometimes tell them he was going up to his bedroom to "talk" to his dead wife.
So I'm a bit unsure about his other statements on the afterlife.
