I don't mind smaller scale battles, TFA does those fine. Of course it's ruined by having Death Star #3.

Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. Easiest video game in history, you just press the play button then watch all of the computer graphics.
>>

TFA doesn't really do those fine. It only has X-wings and fighters. The first order should have at least had some interceptors

Based. And it's impressive how a scene from 1983 is better than "Starkiller base" fight that consists of... 4 minutes with a anti-climatic ending.

>>64054476
Great score.
>>
>>64056487
>I never saw Star base as something huuuge

see the image in the OP?

Starkiller Base is supposed to be roughly the size of the planet in the background or something retarded like that. A++ writing JJ, I guess the next movie will have a Death Star the size of a sun since that would obviously be even cooler and completely plausible
>>
>>64056613
It doesnt help any JJ shot the base like Rey, the gyroweakshit and the sheilds were all in the same 100 foot space. Nigger has no sense of scale.
>>
>>64056306

also when the Death Star blows in New Hope, even in Return of the Jedi, it feels like something huge has happened. The Star Killer Base is bigger than both but when it blows up there is barely anything to it, no emotional component to it, just shit fucking exploding
>>
>>64056423
That guy had to lend his X-wing to Luke, and was the player character from the X-wing game, so he was too good.

Also, Y-wings did good shit in battle of endor, one guy iced a pair of interceptors even

Not even the most brown-nosed TFA defenders have really had anything good to say about it. Really JJ? An even bigger death star?? You couldn't come up with anything more interesting than that?

What the fuck was the first order? Were they just operating in the outer rim?

Why didn't the Republic see them as a threat, but supported a resistance movement?

What the fuck is their goal? Why is the main general an autistic ginger fuck? Why does anyone tolerate Kylo Ren destroying millions in equipment to have a tempur tantrum?

The first order never felt threatening. It felt like a bunch of Weebs cosplaying as the Empire. The Empire had structure, it had control, and they were a well oiled machine. The First Order is a fucking joke.

Also the resistance is backed by the Republic but is somehow worse off and in poorer shape than the actual Rebellion 30 years before. It only has X-Wings and no capital ships at all.

In the OT the production team actually put some thought into how the Empire and Alliance would look like and how they worked (even if only superficially), literally no such thought has gone into TFA.

>>Lando is able to fly into battle with the Millennium Falcon, the Rebellion just lets him lead the attack team on the Death Star, even though he has been nothing but the Mayor of Cloud City for years

It happens for a few reasons.

1. There are 3+ years in between Episodes V and VI, so it's not like Lando just shows up and is immediately promoted to general.
2. Lando won a few major battles for the Rebels, allowing him to climb up the ranks quickly.
3. A huge chunk of the Rebel forces were destroyed in between Episodes IV and V, it's reasonable to assume that they lost a lot of commanding officers.
4. The Rebels aren't exactly the most organized outfit to begin with, it seems like people rise up the ranks really quickly ("General Solo", "Commander Skywalker", etc.).
5. Nepotism. Lando is buddies with the leader of the Rebellion and the the most famous pilot in the Rebellion.

This. Kylo is *supposed* to be a bad tempered teenage Vader fanboy and lightsaber dueling n00b to boot. Rey on the other hand had at least some experience with stick-shaped weapons and a strong affiliation with the force - it makes perfect sense that she's able to beat him and yet people use that fight as example for their mary-sue argument.

>What?? I thought it was 0 years. They waited 3 fucking years to rescue Han?

Yes. Crazy, right? You could argue that they were kind of busy fighting a rebellion, they obviously made incredible progress in between Episode V and Episode VI (went from being on the verge of annihilation to being so powerful that the Empire knew where their fleet was but couldn't touch it). And Jabba the Hutt is pretty powerful, I think it's mentioned that he controls more than just Tatooine. Plus Luke had to become a better Jedi to pull off the rescue. Imagine if Episode V Luke had walked into Jabba's palace, he probably wouldn't have even made it past those two guards at the doorway. And he had to build a new lightsaber.....

....or maybe they just really didn't like Han all that much.
>>
>>64062120
1 year. 3 years was between ANH and ESB.
>>
>>64061951
While I don't give a fuck about this, I can't let this stand: Lando spend those THREE YEARS wearing a stinky pig mask, standing in some dark corner of Jabba's palace holding a stick.

Then again, it's not like ranks and titles mean much in a rag-tag outfit like the Alliance...I mean, I remember like twenty generals, and zero captains from the OT. They probably make you a general just for joining up.

I didn't think about it until just now, but the Rebel fleet above Endor only survived as long as they did because despite being completely outgunned by the Star Destroyers, super close combat made it impossible for the Death Star to shoot at them without taking out their own guys.

>>
>>64064839
>>64064878
Rogue Squadron also let you fly a B-Wing. Thing was unwieldy to fly iirc. It's attack mode made it a huge target and it felt slower than a Y-wing. Neat design though. I like the idea of the entire ship rotating around the cockpit.
>>
>>64064878
god yes. please remake x-wing for oculus
>>
>>64064369
It does the exact same thing as the prequels. Sensory overload, jamming as much on the screen as possible. The original trilogy smartly keeps the focus on a handful of ships or characters at most. The camera is kept steady, and everything that happens is clear to see. Even in larger space battles like the one in the OP, you're often only following a single ship.

In TFA every action scene has dozens of stormtroopers scattered all over the place. It's dogfights are filmed as though by someone on the ground. Ships constantly zip in and our of frame. The camera often feels like it's been set on a paint shaker. At least, until the aeriel combat is over, at which point it suddenly steadies. It's annoying because the combat is precisely when I'd like a stead shot so I can see what the hell is going on. That bullshit snap zoom on the Falcon during Rey's first flight was especially awful.

I played at this arcade this star wars pod game, and it was the most immersive game ever. I felt like i was in the battles. Actually was a bit scary. Look it up

Make aliens look like Minions
Make the protagonist a feminist
Make the sidekick a Black Lives Matter activist
Make the antagonist an Emo

Include flackering lights (get me JJ Abrams), fast cuts, big explosions, big monsters, childish dialogue and screaming

Make a lot of money

This is interesting. I guess you could say that 'my' Star Wars was always more the games than the films. When I was growing up they were fantastic movies but very distinctly belonged to another generation, no matter how many toys Lucas tried to sell me The games on the other hand were a staple. As a result, when you ask me 'what do I think of the Y-wing' I don't go 'they all got wiped out attacking the Death Star' as much as I do think about the slow but powerful bomber that will survive just about anything as long as you don't try to play at dogfighting in it.
I just think it's fascinating how different a perspective people can have on the same setting.

Y wings had a hard life

There's actually two TIE fighters. One's the SF fighter, which Poe and black guy stole. It has the gunner position and it's a little different on the outside.

Why are they still using CGI in TFA, if all of the best Star Wars moments use models and great Classically trained actors?

Maybe they should let some of their computer junkies go.
>>
>>64071961
CG use is minimal
Did you even see the movie?
