But he was able to adequately fly a podracer (which humans weren't really supposed to do well for whatever reason), then later flew a starfighter and blew up a capital ship. He showed enormous promise with the Force at a young age despite being "too old" for traditional training. Rey is very smart with tech and ship systems, undoubtedly from her years as a scavenger. She knew ALL of the controls, the mechanics, because of studying them and other ships, again her entire life, and knew the logistics of flying a spaceship. It's not hard to extrapolate that knowledge into eventually learning to pilot the Millennium Falcon, plus she was able to "fix" it so easily because she was witness to the modifications Onkarr Plott (the fat alien daddy shop owner) had put on the ship.
