What made her such a great character?
She was a supreme cutie in season one.
She's amary sue
Well Tappings acting skill and genuine love for science fiction amd fantasy for one. Also Carter is one example of the 'stronk and independant' woman done right with a good balance of character traits, both good and bad. She could be incredibly inteligent and yet also a bit autistic and self concious at tuthe same time.

And they mostly just kept it simple by sticking to those roles. Simplicity is very underrated.

After season one Amanda Tapping made the writers for SG-1 change her character from being a feminist bitch to a one of the guys tomboy.
