Can't we all just, get along?

But on topic. I always appreciated the fact that Nothing Human from Voyager while technically about how "The Ends Don't Justify the Means", has a tone throughout and especially at the end, that while the crew cannot accept the methods of the surgeon, it's more about their inability to accept it, than about it being objectively wrong.

Ironic, isn't it, Doctor, that fans would so love that which they refuse to learn from?

correctly rated: in the pale moonlight
underrated: that season 7 episode where they explore garak's claustrophobia and guilt at siding against his people

i think timeless is usually ranked as one of voyager's best, and kunta kinte had a lot to do with that.
my personal fave of voyager is pic related, not only cause i like buzzcut skinny dyke types, but also because of the whole stranded in the desert thing, and because of the bookend scenes with young angry tuvok and young in control tuvok, which he gets to share with lori petty in the mind meld and which explains how hes beyond feminine wiles.

TOS 2x19: The Immunity Syndrome is to me one of the great overlooked episodes. The Spock Bones dynamic around the drama over who gets to sacrifice himself to save the ship was top tier stuff.
>>

Okay, so maybe there are two people that shitpost about DS9. Maybe three, four, five. Does it matter? The question still remains and you haven't answered it.

But don't expect to have a good time with Mudd's Women, The Alternative Factor, Catspaw, Wolf in the Fold, The Apple, And the Children Shall Lead, Spock's Brain, The Way to Eden, Turnabout Intruder, and other episodes that I'm forgetting because this list is off the top of my head.
>>
>>64034820
uh... ok. why do i hate ds9? cause the first half of ds9 is boring and slow, and the second half is ira steven behr trying to be edgy about how war is awesome fuck yeah. i really dont want to get into this, though, the seeting butthurt youre obviously holding in is gonna boil over and derail the thread.

I wasn't asking why you hate DS9. Hating DS9 is valid enough in that everyone is right to have their own opinion.

I was asking why you hate DS9 so much that you try to tank every ST thread with rampant shitposting. I'm wondering why you're so obsessed with it. Did Avery Brooks kill your fucking parents or something?

And about your criticisms:
>the second half is behr trying to be edgy about how war is awesome fuck yeah
Have you ever seen the show? Because most war-centric episodes are pretty much about the exact opposite of what you're saying. They're about the horrors of war, tackling issues from PTSD to genocide.
Again, you're entitled to your opinion (even if it makes me think you've never actually watched DS9), but spreading hate in a Star Trek thread runs against the grain of what Trek is about.

When you fly through the wormhole
Slow to impulse, thrusters at half-force

Don't know man. Seemed to make sense to me.
For one, they actually have an entire episode which establishes that returning the Doctor to factory settings isn't too difficult, even after the program went FUBAR, and that the tricky part of restoring a hologram, is to salvage what it learned.

For another, holograms are not just like a video game, that exist on your hard drive, and then take a couple dozen, maybe couple hundred variables being reloaded to get back where you were.
They are dynamically adapting and learning algorithms, that assume certain parameters for their function. Those holographic projections are just as connected to the holo-emitters as the shields are to the ship's systems, and it happened quite a few times that the ship systems got damaged by doing things to the shields they were not designed to take. Now imagine a holoemitter getting temporarily short-circuited by something unexpected, and passing on the wrong or no information to the adapting algorithm.
It would be like a RAM corrpution, except you can't just reboot the Hologram to fix everything, because everything that's happening, is becoming a new part of the constantly evolving program.

It's like when you fuck up your savegame in Skyrim, except in an immensely more complex program that relies on a lot more data being sent correctly.

That describes TNG more than DS9. TNG has way worse episodes overall (your brain has probably blocked out all of the "Troy does nothing" and "Troy gets raped episodes") than DS9 and it's best episodes aren't even that good. Inner Light is frustratingly awful and a lot of it's two-parters are ruined by a bad second part.

It's not like someone physically bashing the holoemitters every did something beyond turning them off. It was generally some exotic energy signature fucking with the systems that damaged the data.
Why that's bad is in the post you linked to.

Inner Light is bad for the same reason Click is bad. Its emotionally manipulative but doesn't spend enough time on characterization to make anyone's fates important to the viewer. We never see how anything affects Picard because it all happens off screen. The moment where Picard is wandering the country side and needs to be taken back home to remember what is important to him is an example of a scene which would have been very effective if shown, but was just mentioned in passing. Speaking of passing, Picard's fat friend passed away offscreen too and their relationship wasn't developed to the point of actually caring. The son should have been cut entirely and more focus on the daughter to make her connection more powerful. Its frustrating because its a great concept with piss poor execution.

I could go on and on about how bad Inner Light is but I've done it tons of times already. Its just emblematic of TNG's writing staff's deficiency with human emotions in general. The whole episode feels as sterile as the rest of the show.

Compare it to The Visitor, or even that episode where Picard visits his family in France. Those aren't just powerpoint slides of someone's life and we actually get to learn and feel for the people being left behind.

As for two parters, a lot of their second parts did suck. Decent is the one that sticks out in my mind the most. They asked a great question about the human nature in the first episode where Data wonders why his first emotions are fear and anger. Then they fuck it up in part two with LOL LORE DID IT.

Also, Ro stole parts from civilian ships and left them stranded and defenseless against the Cylons. She also picked a fight with Adama.

its supposed to be his entire life in 42 minutes, and including scenes like minor characters' deaths would be derailing that.

i think it might seem less repulsive to you if you look at it as a 19th century family-centered stage play, which it is very much set up as, especially the home scenes. its not aiming to be a typical trek scifi episode. funny you bring up when picard is in france, cause that episode is the same deal.

>its supposed to be his entire life in 42 minutes, and including scenes like minor characters' deaths would be derailing that.

The minor characters themselves aren't important. What is important is how they affect Picard. The problem with Inner Light is that we are told all these things that happen offscreen and we are told that Picard is heartbroken about them. Showing his relationship with his fat friend wouldn't have been important because we needed to know about the fat friend, but because we needed to see how that relationship affects Picard and how his death has meaning to Picard. I agree that showing minor character's deaths would be unimportant, which is why I'm also against showing Picard's useless son, who is there for purely shallow and manipulative purposes. A good play or movie affects the feelings because it creates a connection between the audience and the characters. Inner Light just throws cliche after cliche in your face and expects you to cry at the end when the non-twist is revealed.

Inner Light is just a series of events. There is no emotional connection there between the characters and you never see the pivotal moments in Picard's journey. We're told his daughter ran away from home and Picard had to go fetch her but we don't see it. We're told that Picard had a huge struggle adjusting to life on the planet but we're given the sparks note version.

The episode simply needed more focus. More time spent on Picard and his wife and daughter and less meandering shit about his fat friend and pointless son. If these characters are going to die and the writers expect us to mourn them then they better spend time developing them into sympathetic characters. Instead, we got some blunted objects that the writers used to hammer in their hamfisted points.

well the real reason he was there was because thats patrick stewarts actual son

but thats the "pivotal moment" they give you, when its implied that life has meaning, all because the ready to die picard realizes everything in his life was pointing back to himself. kind of a "mystical experience," even if not one that depends on showing every moment of difficulty in his life as an ordinary family man.

I mean it's fucked up as all hell that they killed Tuvix, but it's got that kind of no-bullshit approach.
Killing Tuvix.
Living with the fact that they had identical copies which all sacraficed themselves for the other set of identical copies.
That whole thing with the dream infecting monolith.
The Mudager. (You know, the identical copy of Voyager formed by the organisms on the planet of Death Its actual name escapes me, but you know which one I'm talking about.)
The hospital to which the Doctor's stolen program gets taken to work.
The entirety of Nothing Human.

It's got a lot of unapologetic nastiness, where the point is that the universe can be one messed up place, and you sometimes have to make bad decisions. People will probably not agree with most of the decisions, but you have to make a choice, and live with it.

Proof? DS9's war episodes mainly occur in the season openers / finales, and then there are a few extras in the last two seasons. Any criticism of DS9 on the grounds of having too many action episodes would apply equally to the other series.

Beverly isn't cut for being captain, and Geordie neither. He lacks personal skills. This is why Harry Kim would also be a shit captain, if anyone is captain tier in Voyager Tom Paris is. Zulu in the motion pictures was a good choice too. Worf also. In DS9 he is evolving into an executive. While Spock lost his interest in the motion pictures. In the series they sometimes portrayed him that he wants to make moves career wise. Considering Kira, I don't think she would make a good general, but her being colonel in specops fits.
>>
>>64047780
Not always, no but that's it, isn't it?
You don't live with a decision by questioning it for the rest of your life.
It might find you in one of your most private moments, and you might feel like it's going to break you, but you remind yourself that there is nothing to do about it anymore, and you move on, and strive to be better.

It's pathological when some shows have characters bring up decisions from years ago. That is not healthy.

>Listen well, my boy: I would never give up my holographic blanket, Quark. I mean, because Ferenginar is cold in the winter. I mean, the Tower of Commerce is cold! And it's always winter on Ferenginar. It's a difficult environment, not fit for even a Breen. I mean, our life is tough enough as it is. I'm not looking for ways to get rid of the material possessions that provide relief and comfort, for a reasonable price. I mean, on the contrary, I'm looking for more opportunities to raise sales of consumable goods, because the market is very lucrative. I mean, I'm trying to protect us all because, really, there's these potential profits to be acquired everywhere you look!
Was "My Dinner With Zek" an example of partition kinocinemafilm? All replies welcome except from plens.

What would you think Shattner would have made with this character if he'd have made the new Star Trek?

Would it be worse than the new time line?

>Is that really Geordi's future? Did he really have a passion for diplomacy and crew evaluations and ordering some lieutenant to fire phasers?
>I thought his passion was just engineering, to be honest.

Scotty was third in command of the Enterprise.

>what was there to appreciate about kira? she was a psychopath who always yelled and on top of that she was titless. truly the choice of cucks

She was fighting for her planet and her freedom since she was 13. Her whole storyline is learning how to live in peace.

She's one of the most evolved characters in all of Trek.

>Scotty was third in command of the Enterprise.
His actor was war veteran. I think this was considered here. Besides could they make a Russian or a Japanese or a woman command tier?

>>Is it so unbelievable two people don't like kira?
>No, but it's unbelievable that someone would prefer Ro.

If Picard can forgive her (in the books), you can.

She was made a LT.Co -Commander during the last season and promoted to full COL- Captain in the books.

If the Ferengi==French patricianhood, then Maquis=Memesters who worship boring shots of empty scenery.
