The ghostbusters fanbase is waay too old for this patent shylocking. It's not like starwars where there has been a never ending stream of movies/books/animated series/prequels/videogames/promo stuff/etc.
A hard reboot like this makes no fucking sense, the surviving ghostbusters Akyroyd and Murray want nothing to fucking do with it whatsoever because of this garbage.
The fanbase is too old for this shit and female empowerment fantasy isn't what draws a new generation into the theater for this.
Ghostbusters has a very specific fanbase:
1. People who were kids who grew up when the movies were released or when the animated series were released and the merchandising was in its heyday - well before 1995. Specifically targeting Gen X here.
2.People who were adults/young adults when it was released and saw it for the bretty good action/scifi comedy that it was. Late baby boomers.
It's also of note to point out Ghostbusters wasn't marketed towards kids, but teens and young adults, shit had innuendo and some lewd comedy (for the time at least, now you can probably show dicks in kids movies)
