mcnulty wasn't even that good a detective, and omar's character couldn't possibly have survived as long as he did

Whenever it tries to be stylish and abandons the low-key aesthetic established, it comes off as laughable.
Lack of subtlety, really overstated.
Some of the acting is sub-par.
