Because he struggles the entire way there. Blowing up the Death Star is his single moment of triumph at the end of the end of the movie, and even then he needed a lot of help. Everything before it is him failing and learning.

She get's captured and rescues herself almost immediately.
It's not a check box where if she gets hurt once, or faces a single set back then you mark it down and she's immediately not a Mary Sue.
