My problem with Finn boils down to 2 things:
-His sole purpose is to be the foil to Rey; be a more inexperienced Han Solo to the inexperienced gender-swap Skywalker. I can tell he's gonna be the smuggler character. Finn reminds me of the sort of characters you see on nickelodeon: the bumbling, awkward idiot who nonetheless gets his way via luck or some hidden area of expertise. That isn't much of a bugbear if not for the second thing...
-Boyega's acting leaves a lot to be desired. The reason Han works is because Ford has enough charisma to make a sweet-talking rouge believable and in some respects admirable. Boyega's only lines that weren't delivered stammering and him screaming were in the cantina and when he was giving the plans for the deathstar.

Can we all agree that he was great as Finn in Star Wars? Disney execs clearly have some kind of dumbed-down GRRM-like plan for the plot of the whole series.
Hence characters like Poe and Phasma being introduced in the first movie and doing almost literally nothing. J J Abrams wouldn't even have thought of inventing characters and doing nothing with them, it takes valuable time away from incoherent action.
