Not an amazing episode but it has one of my favorite moments in all of the original series

>take all their clothes and dress up like Nazis
>once they're disguised, they head back out onto the street
>they are immediately stopped and a guard rips Spocks helmet off for no reason revealing them
It's such a long ass scene with them trying to get disguised and it gets blown within 3 seconds for no fucking reason. Gave me a hearty chuckle

There was little indication from that Caretaker episode that Voyager would be anything particularly special.
Broken Bow though is great and really sets the stage for what should have been a fantastic show.

Voyagercould have been really good if it expanded on some of the stuff in caretaker instead of resolving nearly all of the maquis conflict in the first few episodes and abandoning the survival in unknown space angle almost immediately.

Basically his sexuality is inclusive. But--it’s Star Trek and there were a couple of things working against that. One is that Americans really are very nervous about sexual ambiguity. Also, this is a family show, they have to keep it on the "straight and narrow", so then I backed off from it. Originally, in that very first episode, I loved the man's absolute fearlessness about presenting himself to an attractive human being. The fact that the attractive human being is a man (Bashir) doesn't make any difference to him, but that was a little too sophisticated I think. For the most part, the writers supported the character beautifully, but in that area they just made a choice they didn't want to go there, and if they don't want to go there I can't, because the writing doesn’t support it.

He knew that attraction was not going to be returned (or even particularly noticed) and that was okay. He considered Bashir a friend and a protegee.
