Shoehorning lightsabers and 'epic force powers' in everywhere was another big issue in the prequels. Force powers became fucking spells in a video game or some shit. I remember watching Sheev torture Luke with lightning and thinking "Holy shit, this nigger is POWER INCARNATE, he can do anything with the dark side and he's just fucking torturing this kid to death with lightning bolts!"
Then in Episode II we learn that force lightning is just a generic all purpose sith spell that all sith learn at lv12.
I really hated how they handled the force though, I'll give you that. Some cunt with absolutely zero training can just 'naturally' summon her force juice to work for her when Luke has to work his ass off on Dagobah to even hold a candle to a trained force user, and he still gets shitstomped as expected. The prequels started this trend though with midichlorians. After that scene the force becomes fanwankery super hero power level trash. DURR THIS SLAVE BOY HAS A HIGHER POWER LEVEL THAN MASTER YODA!!!

I don't find myself drawn to the humour or the characters in FOTR, but I know that I prefer it to the atrocious sequels which it spawned. It's hard to stand that awful plotting, full of diversity checkpoints and moronic skirmishes.
One stylistic marker I love about TPM is how classically directed it is. Although the CGI doesn't work, it's uses the most naturalistic sets, and it's shot more like a play than another generic flick.

They just took out the fucking GOD AWFUL Lucas dialogue and replaced it with typical marvel fair. They managed to not have any annoying child actors or gungans.
TFA is still a glib facsimile, but to be honest I'd rather look at a well executed Rembrandt reproduction than a collage of pretty pictures a fucking seven year old cut out of magazines and pasted to construction paper which is basically how Lucas made the prequels. I agree that TFA sucked, but so did the prequels. He produced a film with the spirituality of the prequels and the plot of the OT. The plot was not what made SW a classic. It was a combination of interesting characters, a competent plot, a unique, grittier sci-fi universe that had at its core a spirituality and a simple, straightforward moral message that felt like a warm bedtime story in an age of increasing moral ambiguity. It was a superb execution of the monomyth.

Highly choreographed dance fighting is fucking retarded and the Maul fight was pretty much filler trash up until the very end. And Maul just stands there and lets himself get bisected after showing himself to be a superior duelist. So much for that killer choreography, lmao. Palpatine is causing a crisis in a bid to gain more power. He's using fear and the promise of riches to convince the Trade Federation to blockade the planet. They go along with it because they're afraid of him but you can fucking see their reactions to his orders throughout the movie. They're greedy fucks though so after they occupy the planet they think everything is gonna work out.

The OT lightsaber fights weren't as technically impressive as the PT prequel lightsaber fights but they had emotion. There was a lot of tension because you cared about the characters. The only PT lightsaber fight that has emotion is the Anakin vs. Obi-Wan fight but it goes on for too long and devolves into empty spectacle.

The only prequel fight with any emotion was obi wan vs maul, you can see the difference and aggression in obi wan once qui gon dies. It's the only prequel fight where the emotion of the situation is translated into the actual fight, acting and choreography..

personally I only watched these movies for the first time 3 days ago and the OT fights all had emotion behind them, obi-wan dying, luke finding out vader is his father, extreme drama with luke trying to convert vader while sheev tries to convert luke, more like character scenes than just action scenes
while the duels in the PT were fucking garbage because it was obvious they were all on greenscreens with CGI characters at points and there was rarely ever emotional weight behind the fights, the only one that even works on a pure spectacle level is the Darth Maul one since Ray Park can actually do all the flipping about himself in real life so it looks less cringy and pointless, the fight between Obi-Wan and Anakin could have been good but the writing was so bad you don't buy the characters and they go full blown video game with the pointless CGI flying about bullshit
also the rest of TPM was absolute dogshit from beginning to the start of the Darth Maul fight, if you like that movie then you have to admit you like Jar Jar and Jake Lloyd and should seek mental help
