Let's be honest, The Phantom Menace is ten times better than TFA, prequels are massively underrated because of quirky redditors "le prequels are bad mmmkay epic maymay", Lucas is a fantastic director and a real human being, try to watch Red Tails if you want to see a good war movie. Hating on Lucas or prequels is literally reddit-tier
>>

Not one bit.

No, nig.

The new Star Wars is a hundred times better than your shitty prequels.

At least Lucas didn't copy IV for Episode I.

He was all over the place with the prequels but Abrams and co. didn't spread their wings one bit, all they did was rehash.

Yes, it's better alright
>>
>>63861837
They're more opera than space, which is part of why the dialogue was often awkward. But I'll take that over quips
>>
>>63861315
Let's be fully honest here.

The prequels were not quite as bad as the overblown response against them was... but...

Just as there is "le reddit" meme against the prequels, there is a lot of /tv/ memes against TFA going around.

In general, people genuinely liked it. I did... and I honestly don't give a shit about hype or whatever. I have my criticisms, but I still think the movie was good.
>>
>>63861837
I enjoyed them as a kid, but the acting is just too bad and generic.

Still, the story was better, the light saber fights were better too.
>>
Yes, I'm not even joking. Fuck JJ
>>
>>63861908
>Hey everyone, look at this clown who didn't realize Rey had been previously trained in the Force.

I mean, they didn't have a character pop up and give an obvious explanation to you, but it was still there. Watch the flashback scenes closely next time (when she touches the saber). She also has memories of an Island (Kylo pulls from her). Where do they find Luke?

The movie is called "The Force Awakens". All of the other movies have obvious titles... so, did you see a bunch of new Jedi? No. You saw one prodigy rediscover their powers after memory loss/trauma/childhood forgetfulness.

Rey is the one who "awakens".

Also, Kylo was a barely trained sith wannabe.

His training wasn't complete. Also you're completely ignoring the fact that he had gotten shot in the fucking abdomen right before the fight. He had a massive handicap.

Really? I mean, I liked the phantom menace fight as a kid... but most of the prequel fights feel kinda like the fights I used to have as a young kid with friends... where we would talk to each other beforehand to coordinate our moves and do spins and stuff (with nerf bats).

These fights felt pretty nice. Desperation was there, and actual battle damage.

Not like the prequel fights where, rather than taking advantage of an opening with their lightsaber, the fighters just kick/shove their opponent and keep the fight going.

It's Wagner meets samurai movies with an element of Greek tragedy as three flawed individuals, with mutual blindness to the others' issues, inadvertently destroy everything they tried to protect. Padme enables Anakin's descent into madness while Obi Wan is blind to it until it is too late.

You fanboys are fucking pathetic
>>
>>63862500
Memes aside, Lucas really did write Star Wars like poetry. I completely agree with your analysis - the Classical Greek Tragic theatre influence is quite apparent. Even in the OT, this influence was apparent - most notably in IV.
>>
>>63862531
That scene made me shake my damn head and nearly facepalmed. I get that most people in Star Wars are good pilots so I accepted the falcon scene, I accepted she was good at a staff so maybe a lightsaber too, but this, THIS.

Jedi training starts very young too.

She already has had training. She was just rediscovering her powers.

Also, she just was put through interrogation using mental force powers. She had a bit of a warm up before suggestion (related skill set).

Why are you even posting here?
>>
>>63861736
Did you even watch the prequels? Much as I love political intrigue and interstellar trade disputes, it's not exactly adventure serial material, is it?

And as for the new film, yeah it was a bunch of rehash, but it was at least self-conscious. And it set up future films that will deviate wildly from the OT. If the next film opens up on an ice planet and Rey gets stuck outside and has to be saved by BBC or Poe I'll eat my hat, but the story it set up is definitely going to be more interesting than the one in TFA, and I'd wager OT as well.

Just because new Star Wars is shit doesn't mean the prequels were good, nor does it mean that you're not still a fucking hack. You should have just let it die. It's as much your fault as it is Disney's you fat piece of shit.

I think in trying to distance itself so much from the prequels and possibly Lucas' negative legacy, it missed out on the opportunity to salvage some of the good elements that were typical of George Lucas vision. It's completely odd saying this and I wouldn't have said this a few days ago, but I feel like the prequels have some of that Lucas spark or underlying feeling that TFA just didn't. I don't know, something about it - in spite of everything - just feels more Star Wars than TFA.

Just got back from watching TFA. Movie was a solid 8/10, if you just skip EVERY REY SCENE. Holy tits, I haven't seen a more Mary Sue character since I read the lastest R.A. Salvatore novel. Seriously, the "instantly better than everyone at their specialty" thing made me wanna puke.
