1) R2 only had an older version where he didn't record the rest of Luke's journey
thus needing BB-8 to complete the whole map
2) both maps have the same timestamp and needed each other like 2 .rar files to complete
if 1 then they did indeed need BB-8's part really bad because Luke might have traveled further than the cut out piece of R2's map could have visually blocked
if 2 then Luke could have only been in that particular part of the galaxy

Kylo's lightsaber is like that because the crystal is cracked and thats the only housing that can contain its fucked up state. The crossguard was only really useful against Finn, who didn't really know what he was doing and was running on pure adrenaline.

It might sound over used, but to me less is more would have applied here. So it's a bigger sphere that shoots a lazer to take out planets. It's not narratively different from the death stars. It feels insanely recycled. While the crisp snow laden forests on the outside of the star killer base felt aesthetically fresh for the franchise, every frame of the interior felt like a rehash of the death star from a new hope.
It felt boring. Can't wait for part 9, with the almost fully operational star killer planet system.

Watched it in 3D for my first viewing and 2D for my second viewing It had around 6 shots that were truly stunning in 3D, but ultimately I liked the 2D version better because of the lack of eye strain.
Ignoring the whole story thing of the movies and the EU etc, I always admired the art of the franchise, and how unapologetically they give renditions of the same formula with tweaks that keeps it interesting. As in "every generic soldier is stormtrooperish in appearance" pic related.
