The movie was good, but there's one thing I don't get: Why did Rey, the guy with the map, and the Falcon all happen to be not only on the same planet, but within walking distance of each other? Obviously all three were of significance not just by chance. The map for obvious reasons, the Falcon because it belongs to Han who is a key player in the Rebellion/Resistance, and Rey because she is Force sensitive and probably Luke's daughter. So why did all three of these all happen to be in the same location?
>inb4 because JJ Abrams felt like it
I want a real in-universe explanation. Is it just the will of the Force kinda like Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan meeting Anakin or is there some other reason?

I could see the guy being tasked with keeping the map also being there to watch over Rey in the same way as Obi-Wan was partly there to watch over Luke in IV, but the Falcon still doesn't make sense.
>>
>>63772252

The entire planet of Tatooine is probably force sensitive or some shit.
>>
>>63772290
This.Well, maybe not this exactly but everything that happens in star wars is obviously all supposed to happen according to force related prophecy/destiny, etc.
>>
>>63772290
But it wasn't Tatooine it was Jakku.
>>
What happened to A-wings, B-wings, Y-wings, TIE Interceptors, TIE bombers, TIE Defenders, etc??/\

what the fuck

that pissed me off so much
>>
>>63772252
OP did you even watch the movie?

Han had the MF stolen by Dak, who had it stolen by Jak, who had it stolen by Mak, who had it stolen by Jerome, who had it stolen by the fat greasy alien, who had it sitting there until he had it stolen by Rey.

Rey was there because she got stranded there.

Lor was there because that's where he chose to live.
>>
>>63772642
The Rebellion took a look at the Defense Budget after the Battle of Endor, and decided to scrap them all without a bad guy to fight anymore, and put the reduced budget into upgrading the X-wings
>>
my guess is the force brings them together
>>
>>63772252
It was the Forced writing.
>>
>>63772719
Yes, and I get all that, I just don't get how those three happened to all be in the same location. Why did the Falcon happen to be stolen by someone who lives by Rey and Lor? Why did Rey and Lor happen to live near each other?
>>
>>63772568
Literally nothing confirms it's a different planet. It's entirely possible that Starkiller destroyed the other sun.
>>
>>63772252
Well there wouldn't be much of a movie there if they weren't you stupid fuck. This place pisses me off. "HURR DURR WHY DOES THE PLOT HAVE TO BE DRIVEN FORWARD HURR DURR, WHY EVEN FUCKING WATCH MOVIES DUHHH MEME MEME MEME"
>>
>>63772568

i just realized this. seems kind of stupid to introduce another planet that identical to tatooine.
>>
No honestly, I understand that all the coincidences in the story, (& I'm already forgotten half of them but they seemed to pile one on top of the other, including looking for Rey on a planet-sized station—Hey look! There she is!), were partly a writing trick to keep the events moving at a good clip, with the in-Universe explanation layered on top, that it's the result of the Force channeling the threads of destiny together, but one side effect is making this setting feel awfully small, as in: Oh, you know him? Small world.
>>
>>63772252

I do think it's a bit much that they ended up stealing the falcon. That's a bit overly contrived.

The rest can be waved off as "it's the force I don't gotta explain shit". A resistance member ending up on the same planet as a force user isn't really that contrived.
>>
>Coincidence is something that novelists must handle with great tact: a reader may comfortably accept a plot motivated by a couple of unlikely or chance encounters, but (as in several other of his novels) Dickens overuses the device in Great Expectations. Rather than tightening the screws on the plot, these coincidences actually loosen overall credibility by making what happens seem forcibly contrived.
>>
>>63773131
Are you retarded or are you trolling?

While random coincidences do happen, and we can suspend a certain level of disbelief when we see it in a movie (especially if it's done well through lamp shading or whatever), too much convenient plot points is just lazy writing.

Ehy am I even bothering. You are clearly a fucking retard. HUR DUR ITZ A MOVIE SO NOTHING NEEDS TO MAKE SENSE GUIZ
>>
>>63773172
desu Jakku was even more of a wasteland than Tatooine
>>
>>63773208
>looking for Rey on a planet size station
No, it wasn't a station. It was a planet with a cannon built into it. They just looked for her in the base, which is just a normal building basically.
>>63773231
>A resistance member ending up on the same planet as a force user isn't really that contrived.
No, but the key to finding Luke which is basically the most important object in the galaxy being within walking distance of Rey who is probably Luke's daughter is a HUGE fucking coincidence. Unless there is some explanation.
>>
>>63772965
wat

Why should they use a different name for Tatooine?
>>
>>63773576
It became part of the Republic and was no longer in control of the Hutt's after Jabba's death (not that he was the only hut, but it probably had a domino effect).
>>
>>63773576
Because the anon you replied to is retarded
>>
>>63772252
To rephrase your question, Why are Luke's daughter and Luke's map both at Luke's last known whereabouts?
>>
>>63772252
The Force. That's basically the in universe excuse for any coincidence or luck in this series.
>>
>>63773685
Luke's last known whereabouts is Jakku? If so, why was Rey orphaned at age 5 if she lived right next to Luke? He hasn't been in hiding for over a decade has he?
>>
>>63772642
in the next 12 years there's going to be a new Star Wars film every fucking year so shut the fuck up.
>>
>>63773731
there was no specific amount of time mentioned but i assumed from everything they said that its been a long time
>>
>>63773816
So maybe Rey was orphaned around the time Luke left, I don't see why he would leave his daughter though. I guess it could possibly explain why Rey and the map were near each other. But even if so where the fuck did the Falcon come from?
>>
>>63774012
Maybe Luke was afraid that Kylo Ren would kill her or lead her to the dark side.

Luke is his main objective, so she is safe separated from him.
>>
>>63774142
Very good point. This would definitely explain why Rey and the map are near each other. But why the FUCK did the Falcon get there? JarJar Abrams better fucking explain it
>>
>>63774142
The one problem I have though, is if Kylo Ren has been a Sith for 14 or so years (14 years would put Rey at 19 since she was orphaned at 5, she looks 19 or so, just guessing) and a Jedi before that then why the fuck is he so fucking weak and unskilled with a lightsaber?
>>
>>63773352
>too much convenient plot points is just lazy writing.

Like how 2 stupid fucking droids crash landed on Tatooine conveniently running into Obi-Wan and Darth Vader's son?

lol, so true
>>
>>63772252
They kind of explain this.

Han didn't know where the millennium falcon was, so it being there was entirely by chance. The fact it had been there long enough for Ren to say it was a piece of junk would suggest it's just been sat there after it was stolen.

As for Ren - the reason she's there is likely tied to her parents plot - which they didn't really bother explaining in this film. Suspect we'll learn more about that in EP 8
>>
>>63774237
you dumbass princess leia was going to tatooine to find Obi-Wan. Obi-Wan was on Tatooine guarding Luke.
>>
>>63772568
>>63772404

It's a different planet, confirmed.

however we do not know

>>why the Falcon was there

>> Rey's family history

However this call all be explained with loltheforcedidit

completely random, but what if just for fun, they said Finn was Lando's son? Since he got ripped from his family it's not like it matters

currently in the star wars there are more sith than black people. so there is plausibility to your theory.

>>
>>63772252
the force did it
>>
>>63774527
Yes we do. It was explained. Someone stole it from Han, and then it was stolen from them, and then stolen from the other person again, and just ended up on the planet as a live in shelter.

He was probably given it by Luke for safe keeping, or managed to steal it from the jedi archive before it was raided.

Rey is a legit issue because it SOUNDED like Kylo was the one keeping her on the planet when her unknown parents were leaving.
>>
Was Rey one of the Knights of Ren?
>>
>>63775101
>it SOUNDED like Kylo was the one keeping her on the planet when her unknown parents were leaving.
What?
>>
>>63775187
Did you not hear it? That was Kylo in his voice modulating helmet telling her that they weren't coming back and to stop trying to chase after them.

That's why it's an issue, because who the fuck had Kylo's helmet if he and Rey are essentially the same age?

Also, he didn't have the signature yellow/gold sith eyes at any point throughout the movie.
>>
>>63775297
>Did you not hear it? That was Kylo in his voice modulating helmet telling her that they weren't coming back and to stop trying to chase after them.
I would have to rewatch the vision, it happened so fast, but what you said doesn't really make sense because she was abandoned when she was 5, so unless Kylo was already a Sith back then... though if he is a bit older and was a Sith already it would explain Luke being her dad and leaving her. So maybe Kylo forced her to stay but I don't think Luke would have allowed that
>Also, he didn't have the signature yellow/gold sith eyes at any point throughout the movie.
He's not Sith enough. Dooku didn't either. And Kylo isn't even a Darth. He's no better than Asajj.
>>
Can we talk about how awesome the lightsaber battle was?
>>
>>63775419
I know it's not necessarily story-relevant considering movie casting, maybe, but Adam Driver is more than eight years older than Daisy Ridley, so maybe there is supposed to be a substantial age difference.
>>
>>63775101
It says in the opening crawl that Max van Sydow's character was a "trusted ally" of Luke.
>>
>>63775621
Sure. The faggot got pwned by the qt, that was cool
>>63775652
And it would explain Luke leaving Rey over a decade ago. I still don't think Kylo was involved in keeping Rey there though, more like Luke left and went away from Rey to keep her safe. Doesn't make sense why he left her in a desert though. And it doesn't make sense that Kylo still sucks with a lightsaber after over a decade. Unless anon is right and he's too busy fapping into Vader's helmet to train.
>post yfw VIII is a fetish porno of Kylo and Vader's helmet
>post yfw it's a necro porno with Kylo and Vader's corpse
>>
>>63775297
>>63775101

I think it was vader who put her on that planet. It sounded very vader-like.
>>
>>63775621
It really was. I loved the difference between lukes[/spoiler saber and kylo's
>>
>>63775621
It wasn't an over-choreographed whirly twirly bullshit fight like every goddamn fight in the prequels. There was some real weight and emotion to it. As far as lightsaber fights go, it's definitely more in line with the ideals of the OT than the prequels, which is a huge plus.
>>
>>63775806
Exactly, thought it was the best fight in the series. It didn't have the emotional weight that Luke/Vader had but in terms of how it looked and choreographed, it was great.
>>
>>63775770

Rey would be in her thirties if that were true. She's clearly not meant to be much older than a teen.
>>
They really need to explain how not-Keira Knightley was able to use the force so easily on her first go.

It's just too convenient. a mary sue with a built-in deus ex machina.
>>
>>63775984
I think she is Luke's daughter. I already feel she is already powerful in the force, she just had to get into a situation where she had to use it.
>>
>>63775984
She did take a few tries to mind trick. When Kylo tried to invade her mind and wasn't able to she realized she was Force sensitive, so then she just had to believe in her ability.
>>
>>63775806
>>63775869

I loved it too. It actually had a physicality to it, much like the Han/Luke duel in Empire.
>>
>>63776116
>Han/Luke duel
>>
>>63776078
Just like yoda said.

Though how did she even know mind tricks were a thing when she doesn't even know jedi are real jidt a few days earlier.
>>
>>63776204
i wudnt be surprised if they reveal she had dreams (she was desperate to sleep) but they're force visions or distant memories of her youngling training.

it's not exactly a space port but im sure she heard stories about the jedis from travelers in her shitty town.
>>
>>63776204
She knew of the Jedi, she just didn't know they were real. If the Jedi are real it's reasonable to assume that the legends regarding their abilities are real too.
