Well, history tends to disagree with you, as Cheers and the other two shows mentioned are considered to be the greatest sitcoms of all time. And laughter can actually add to a show, making a good show great. Look at the Carol Burnett Show. The whole appeal of the show was the actors trying to crack each other up with their improv. You'd have times where a good minute would go by with just the cast and audience cracking up, and that's what made the show great. It was must see TV back then.

literally not possible. television was very different back then, there wasn't very many channels so the incentive for quality wasn't there. They just filled time and produced shows that were entertaining to watch, and they did, because there was nothing to compete with. A product from a writers room of old men to appeal to the clueless masses.
Since tv is so huge and vast now, it's hard to get your show seen let alone revered. The fact that Sunny came out of nowhere, lasted this long and has never had a bad season is truly a miracle and an accomplishment.
