It's not just a meme though. The show deliberately has almost no overarching story arcs and at the time it was relatively singular in that regard. Of course there are a couple of arcs that run the course of an entire season (season 4 for instance) but for the most part the show has no consistent factors except for the characters basically. Part of the hilarity is found in the fact that these characters change girlfriends/boyfriends from episode to episode and it's never even remarked upon. The show is definitely about nothing as that is Larry David's perspective of life.
