>>
>>63735600
Same. Easily the best shit in 30 years.

And I just watched the old trilogy right after hitting the cinemas.

Felt like a little kid again. Sure it wasn't perfect, but I was so fucking anxious and expecting absolute shit and it turned out pretty amazing.
>>
>>63735600
>tfw autism doesn't render you incapable of enjoying good things
>>
>>63736210
Rey wasn't confirmed Luke's daughter. Rey has no major role in the movie outcome, other than defeating Kylo.
>>
>>63736210

yes it is beat for beat a new hope. doesn't stop it from being fucking awesome.

kylo is based and rey is kawaii fuck you all niggers
>>
>>63736210
You won't even notice because the first 40 minutes have a really good vibe and than is just a bowl with characters from the OG trilogy, you'll like the movie while watching it because of fanservice but then you'll get out, think about it and notice that it doesn't makes sense and that it was really a depressing experience
>>
>>63735600
it was bretty guud :D
>>
>>63736338
>tfw the nigger will probably fuck Rey
;_;
>>
>>63736359
The nigger was such a funny hick and it was honestly so satisfying seeing him get his ass handed again and again by everyone. I even emphathized with him. A little.
>>
>>63736352
Welp, gotta watch it just to feel that tasty depression.
I can't wait to see the two following movies. It would actually be really interesting to see of they rehash the entire original trilogy
>>
I hope there's no Rey-Finn relationship. Not because he's a nigger, but because it would be forced as fuck.
>>
I loved it, too. Not a perfect movie, by any means, but amazing expirience for me. Kylo and Poe stole the show for me.
Ray and Fin are both amazing and I am glad for that.
Story is more or less episode 4, yes, but not less amazing. But action, humor, chemistty, acting, all amazing.

One thing I dont get. They were hyping Max Von Somethin and Gwendoline Christy's characters, and combined, they have less than 10 minutes.
>>
>>63736396
The set up a stage now with that clusterfuck of sons and daughters, so I expect them to be better.
>>
>>63736408
they seem to just be pretty good friends

they never actually make out or anything, they just share a bond over the metric tonne of shit the bad guys make them go through
>>
>>63736352

I had the same experience, when the movie was over, i kinda felt empty and sad inside. I honestly didn't like it. And I am a die hard SW fan.

They kiss and then find out their siblings. Leia fucked Lando behind Hans back
>>
>>63736455

Kylo was just an edgy teenager, what a joke!
>>
>>63736336
the ending scene likely contained dialogue where Luke confirms he is Rey's father that was cut. the leaks were probably correct at the time they happened, Disney just discovered that the scene made people laugh uproariously.
>>
>>63736502
why is he getting his lightsaber out and posing when there is nothing there?
>>

this didn't happen though

>han and chewbacca help them leave jakku

>ren is rey's cousin
this didn't happen though at least not yet

There are definite similarities, that much is undeniable. But the execution is notably different, it's not a shot for shot rehash of ANH
>>
>>63736546

Because:

>>63736521
>>
>>63736502
Probably because it looks like he's having a showdown with a fucking tree.
>>
>>63736546
Because the PR-Department thought it would look good and appeal to the new audience
>>
Same here. Sure, it had problems, but I still liked it a lot. All air fight scenes were fucking amazing.
>>
>>63736546

It's a literal trailer shot and a good reveal of those side hilt things which thankfully were actually used in the movie and weren't entirely useless
>>
>>63736595
>>63736546
Obviously he's sensing that Finn and Rey are arriving. But still. Maybe it was a good thing they didn't use the actual shot. The media covered it enough as it is.
>>
>>63736502
At least there is a similiar one, Mark Hamill voice was completely cut from the movie and it's the only thing that poor guy has left, his look was really not the best.

If I had one major gripe with this movie, it's that that the rebel fleet was reduced to nothing but X-Wings.

I mean, I get it, X-Wings are iconic for Star Wars but I really miss my B-Wingfu.
>>

>han and chewbacca help them leave jakku

Did they leave Jakku in the millennium falken?
>>
>>63736625
They are intended to be exhaust vents. His lightsaber is made of junk by ancient blueprints and is not as advanced as proper lightsabers.
>>
>>63736643
I liked him in the last shot. He totally delivered that serene Obi-wan feel.
>>
>>63736653

>>
>>63736210
There wasn't anything original about ANH either, if you remember. Kurosawa could have sued for plagiarism if he was a litigious Jew.

The Jew fears the samurai.
>>
>>63736653
>Did they leave Jakku in the millennium falken?

Yes, it belonged to the owner of a scrapyard on Jakku. Once they leave Jakku they are captured by a large freighter ship that is flown by Han and Chewie. Han says that they were very easy to track once they left Jakku, and If his freighter could detect that the Falcon was active again the First Order are definitely aware.

No, they don't have the Lightsaber until later in the movie. He is skeptical about them but just after they capture Finn and Rey, the freighter is boarded by two different groups of Bounty Hunters tracking Han. Finn & Rey help Han escape the ship, they all board the Falcon and Rey proves to be a good pilot so Han warms up to her and offers her a job with him as a smuggler

The Finn and Rey were in the middle of repairing the ship when the freighter ship got them. They hid first cause they thought it was a First Order ship. Rey showed competence in handling the ship which impresses Han and Chewie as much as Han doesn't want to mention it. They found the saber the scene after.

Anakin destroyed a Trade Federation control ships, single-handedly saving the Gungan army and Naboo while at 1/3rds Rey's age.

Here is my theory senpai.

>That scene where Rey finds Luke's lightsaber and has the hallucinations
She is recalling when Ben Solo was taken from her either by Snoke (in which they would have been looking for the child of Luke and he would have lied to protect her and said he was Luke's child) or he was taken by Luke/the new jedi order for training.

>The scene where Kylo kills Han and says he's afraid he does not have the strength to do it
I think that Kylo is a good guy pretending to be a bad guy to get close to Snoke so he can kill him or something along those lines. I think that what he meant was that he didn't have the strength to kill his own father but he knew that he had to do it for the greater good of the galaxy. His father gave him the strength to kill him because he was reminded that there were still people who cared about him and he found new resolve in being reminded of what he was trying to protect.

Thoughts?

No. Kylo obviously had a personal inner conflict. He's not a good guy pretending to be bad guy, when he has lone conversations with his dead Sith idol-sama, telling him to show him the ways of the dark side. He's motivated to serve the darkness as is.
>>
>>63737490
I just thought Ren was such a fanboy of Vader he wanted to be on the darkside like him, but he was good at heart. The bridge scene was like the decision where he could either stop what he was doing or kill Han. When Han saw the humanity in him he thought he could trust him. The sun setting was either just symbolism for Ren's choice or a reminder to Ren of what hes trying to become

Being such a Vader fanboy means acknowledging his redemption. His idolization could come from the fact that, like Vader, he has to use the dark side but ultimately destroys the sith.

It would have been nice if we got his opinion on Vader's redemption but they're probably saving it for another film.

Also, to be honest, the only scene I really liked that was anywhere near close to A New Hope was the final scene with Luke and Rey.

People always talk about how they rightfully pretended the prequels didn't exist but I don't think they did completely ignore them.

I feel that Kylo Ren is very much a prequel inspired character. He's essentially Anakin but instead of trying to make you like and sympathize with him you're supposed to hate him. I feel like someone was like "man, people really fucking hated Anakin, seems like a pretty easy villain for this new movie."

He was such a whiny cunt and ugly as fuck but I really liked him. It was eerie how much he looked like Han but at the same time how much he looked like Anakin. His acting wasn't anything special but the casting was really spot on.

Anyone else feel the same?
>>
>>63737490
1) we will find out later, no way anyone could really guess it correctly
2) I think Kylo thought he would finally be the real darth vader if he killed all who he cared for, like anakin vs obi-wan, ("I am torn" vs "I still feel the light side") or killing the jedis in temple...
>>
Prequel references that I noticed

* Kylo Ren quips that Stormtroopers are so incompetent that they should've stuck with the Clones
* C3PO's red arm

The reasons I liked Kyle was pretty much exactly for how pathetic he was with his tantrums and that Vader facade. He had absolutely no reason to look and act like he does, but does it anyway.

I just wish his motives were revealed a bit more before he killed his dad. I really want to know why he has such a hard on for the dark side when he explicitly states that the light is calling for him.

Yeah, I liked how pathetic they made him out to be, and it seemed very much intentional with his temper tantrums having comedic undertones rather than trying to be intimidating.

He also gets cut by a fucking storm trooper in a lightsaber fight who doesn't even know how to use a lightsaber. I mean yeah, he's wounded but it still shouldn't have been a contest. It's also retarded he just didn't force push him or some shit.

I did like how Kylo doesn't seem to be a sith or a jedi either. He just has some decent force capabilities and a make-shift lightsaber.

People complain about how he's a shitty autist and not some all powerful badass while in the same breath complaining about it being a copy of ANH. They miss the intention of how the character is meant to come across.

Vader was a highly trained Sith who was the strongest force user in the universe.

Ren is a hardly trained force user with a home-made lightsaber. An untrained storm trooper almost school him with a lightsaber and you're acting as if it's uneblievable that Rey couldn't beat him when he was heavily wounded from being both shot and cut by a lightsaber.

anakin is the only comparable character. Luke is fairly incompetent in a fight until RTJ, han is an experienced pilot and gunfighter but never does anything ridiculous like the scene in the desert with rey fucking up a bunch of TIE fighter in a ship she's never flown before. She also lack the character flaws of anakin in that she is fairly level headed and intelligent.
>>
>>63738154

>He was trained by Luke SKywalker

>Fucking stops a blaster ray without even concentrating.

He is hardly trained?

Also, the references to the holocaust at the beginning are pretty burned out.
>>
>>63738230
>with rey fucking up a bunch of TIE fighter in a ship she's never flown before

Finn shoots down both TIE fighters. Unless you're talking about Rey positioning the Falcon so the locked turret could hit the second TIE. That was pretty whizzkid.

>She also lack the character flaws of anakin in that she is fairly level headed and intelligent.

She spends most of the film in denial about her parents selling her into slavery.
>>
>>63737421
>doing jedi mindtrick with 0 prior experience with the force

well it seemed to me like as she realised there is something forceful happening to her she just tried the old meme of mind tricks that is probably part of the fairy tales about the myth of jedi she grew up op. And it doesnt work at first at all.

>using a blaster for the first time and oneshotting 3-4 stoormtroopers in a row

she clearly states that she is not holding it the first time, she quickly realises that it doesnt shoot because there is safety on. like she handled guns before but maybe not for some time as she was basicly slave working just not to die of hunger. And slaves are ususally not allowedto handle firearms, hence the "this is why i can also handle lightsabre" staff

>knowing and repairing the falcon better than Han

the ship stands there, opened for years, like some fucking tank on a pedestal. She probably spend a lot of time checking it out because she does scavenging for living. She knows it is a junk, so she probably also knows why. and it is YTfreighter, actually pretty common ship in the universe. But shefucking struggles with the controls for a while. I only didnt like that falcon is obviously madeout fo adamantium.

After reading the leaks, any interest I had in seeing it died. A blatant A New Hope rehash, devoid of any originality. It's obvious Rey is going to be Luke's daughter, only Luke made her with the Force (which goes back to that conversation Sheev had with Anakin about being able to do that), which is why she was able to beat Kylo despite her having no training. Luke will say "No. I am your father" because reference and the audience will cheer like the fucking normie shits they are.
>>
>>63738274
I was talking about her epic flying skilzz. And her fixing the falcon with ease. Anakin was supposed to be a misguided messiah, and her denial is all but resolved at the end of the first movie in the trilogy. She's a mary sue dude
>>
>>63738333
legit question: How many limbs did he lose? I saw his hand, and probable a leg, also the huge gash on his face, man say what you want about Kylo but he tanked a crowsbow shot, strikes from Finn and some from Rey until Rey tapped into the raw force
>>
>>63738116
Rey should have been great at taking out your average goon and mong faced whatever. Then comes up against Kylo only to be completely outclassed.

It means she would have a real reason to go and do some proper training. If she's able to best Kylo already, what's the fucking point?

It doesn't make sense and has about as much depth as a fucking puddle.

But hey that's what pandering to the "STRONG WOMYN" audience does.
>>
>>63738116
I liked the last part.It had a feel of three raged persons that handle weapons they dont really know how to use. The onlycompetent one was pretty badly wounded, but also for him it wasprobably a long time since he stoodwith his lightbastard against something else than starship avionics.

Also we dont yet know whot is the nature of said awakening. yeah, it is convenient plot mover if it is some process that actually imbues a person with forsce powers.

btw for me it felt like she could slip to the dark side in this moment easily, she would even probably finish him off. Yes, she had force powers but she had no idea what is she daling with. Now she needs proper training, she needs to be told what it is she experiences and how not to fuck up. For her it is all just fairy tale come true
>>

I thought it was all right. Nothing special, but it was still fun.

My only issue? The actor playing Finn has the charisma of a wooden plank.

Also, Ren -or rather, the actor- really steals the whole fucking film.

Also also, there's no way that's Peter Meyhew in the Chewbacca suit all the time. Maybe in shots where Chewy is sitting down or walking, but running or going up ladders? No fucking way.
>>
>>63737925

How bad is Rey? Maybe I'm a soggy knee or something but I really can't stand my impression of her being the JJ abrams special: woman who tries to act like a man, is stronk and don't need no man, innately excellent at whatever she needs to be, spunky and hard-edged but good hearted.

It would have flown in the face of the whole star wars family relationship shit but I would have liked Bogedya to end up being Luke's heir. Challenge and turn on its head the notion of hereditary greatness with the force and make it a case of will, discipline and force of spirit rather than who your daddy was.
>>
>>63736210
The "poetry" of star wars exists in every movie, it rhymes
>>
It had a ton of cool imaginative stuff in it, but:

>the movie feels like it's just trying to go from one scene to the next, it's hard to feel any underlying narrative
>way, WAY too many similarities with the original
>Rey becomes too competent in very specific uses of the force too fast, right when the plot requires it

The characters would be fine if the script didn't try to rush them through the plot and funnel them into "REMEMBER THIS THING FROM THE ORIGINAL?" moments. Rey's backstory was showing promise, but it kind of came and went as it pleased. It would have been interesting if she had been REALLY obsessed on going back home, or if her decision to stop waiting for her parents had been more cathartic.

I hope they got as many references out of their way in this movie to do something interesting with the next one, but I don't know. People thought the same would happen with Star Trek: Into Darkness.
>>
I loved it too, but the biggest thing holding it back was that there was nothing really iconic in the movie. Nothing I can see being remembered for decades. No "I am your father", no trench run, no award ceremony, no twin sunset moment, all that kind of stuff. What TFA did well, it did really fucking well, it just lacked any really unique, memorable, star wars-ish moments that will be remembered for years.

Also, apart from any returning themes, John Williams' score was pretty forgettable, which is pretty damn disappointing...
>>
>>63739039

Chewbacca is played by a Finnish basketball player called Joonas Suotamo in the action scenes.
>>
I liked the movie but a few things really bugged me out

like all weird usages of hyperspace.

In episode 4 it's clearly stated that you got to calculate the jump very carefully to not end up inside a star or smashed into a planet and here they just go "lol just start the jump from inside the hangar" and "lol let's just drop hyperspace right on the fucking surface of the planet"

basically it was just used to do "cool" things rather than actually make sense.

the giant death star sort of bugged me a bit but then it sort of made sense after they explained that the beams go through hyperspace themselves.
Still it makes no sense that it just depletes the star, what then? do they just hyperspace the whole planet somewhere else like zonama sekot or whatever it was called did?

it gives me a headache if I think about the implications

this. it's less about "what" happens, it's more about "how" and "with who"

the characters, the arc about the force surrounding us, all the classic and common themes and actors are the main reason why this movie works. and the way it was filmed.

It's basically like the Star Trek reboot, with working characters and a better script about people and emotions.

Her skills:
>tech, makes sort of sense since she is a tech scavenger
>scavenger on a hostile planet, ergo everyone has some blaster skills
>is shown to be strong in the force, and learns some tricks during the film. Kylo Ren still has the more impressive skills.

Also, we all know that limited force skills make you better in everything, and the film hints that her skills are awakening.

Also mary sue? She is shown to be scared multiple times during the film and to be quite naieve.

Seriously, I don't understand these complaints when we square them against other star wars films. Or is Citizen Kane now the only scale we use for films? Everything that is not Citizen Kane is shit and so on?

>>
>>63736338

I wouldn't go so far as to say it's beat for beat, there were some differences eg the cantina scene stand-in happened later on in the movie instead of before leaving sand planet
And besides the major generic plot descriptions like 'rebels figure out the plan to stop the death star' and 'death star blows up' most of the execution is different and there are a lot more new scenes and events that don't have an ANH parallel

Correct but the problem with the force awakens is that "Starkiller Base" is literally a scaled up Death Stare.

There's a difference between having a similar structure that a bunch of stories in general follow and blatantly just copying ideas from the previous movies and replacing them with different names

Having a THIRD death star was a retarded idea
>>
>>63735600
Me too.

No, it's not a deep as fuck movie that leaves you thinking about the big questions of life. But neither is any other Star Wars movie. It's a silly space opera, and that's exactly what it should be. Unlike the prequels, it actually pulls it off.
>>
>>63740384
The empire or "new order" or what ever they are calling the villains now abandoned the clone storm trooper idea after Episode III or in the time between Episode III and IV.
Cloning apparently was too expansive and they were lacking good genes

It was decent asides from Rey "Master Jedi" Skywalker and "OMG LUKE LIGHTSABER THIS IS SO IMPORTANT".

Also Rey and Leia shouldn't have been hugging. It should have been a conflicted scene in which they sense their relation through the force BUT are unable to display affection to one another BECAUSE THEY ARE GODDAMN STRANGERS AND HAVE NEVER SEEN EACH OTHER BEFORE (if they're going to fill in flashbacks with Leia having seen Rey, then Rey should have reacted with that mix of confusion yet distant connection.)

The explanation for his love for the Dark Side is the power. When he's praying to Vader's mask, he says the Light is calling for him so he says "Show me again, the power" or something like that. This is simply internal conflict, just as Luke had the Dark Side calling for him in RotJ but stayed Light
>>
>>63737830
Star Wars is now mainstream so they have to adapt to a wider audience, e.g. make it simpler
>>
>>63740590
Star Wars is the third most successful film ever made you moron.

It's always been both simple and mainstream.
>>
>>63737896
Yes they are. The forehead kiss at the end. It's SJW because the girl character is amazingly powerful and can do anything. Plus the "Don't hold my hand!!!" thing on Jakku. At least Luke started off clumsy and needed lots of training and encouragement from Yoda, which was real human development. Rey just turns from uneducated desert scavenger into brilliant strategist pilot Jedi
>>
>>63738154
>Vader was a highly trained Sith who was the strongest force user in the universe.
The Emperor was stronger
>>

>it's unrealistic that a scavenger who spent the last decade living in a planet sized detroit knows how to fight

Jedi thing kind of weird though, I'm sure it'll be explained, it's already heavily hinted that she's some kind of super powerful force anomaly like Anakin, or Lukes daughter.

What exactly is the relationship between light sabers and the Force? Can anyone wield a light saber? Finn wasn't force sensitive was he? I thought sabers were Force-activated.

If sabers and the Force are separate, then
- why does no one use Force abilities during duels?
- how can a saber catch Force Lightning?

>Kylo has Force Stasis

Ben is a double agent. He's going to kill Snoke in the third film. Screencap this.
>>
>>63740715
They're not connected, a lightsaber is just a weapon. They're activated by regular people as early as ep5 (Han cuts a tauntaun open with Luke's saber.) The reason it's so popular with force users and not really used at all by normal people is because it's extremely difficult to control, and because you need some serious fucking matrix tier reaction speed to actually deflect blaster bolts, which is the only reason you would ever bring one to a fight over a blaster.

>why does no one use force abilities during duels?
They are, they amplify their physical speed, strength, reaction speed etc etc etc using the force.

>how can a saber catch force lightning?
It looks cool, it has honestly never been explained further.

People are really upset about the mind trick, but really where in Star Wars is it ever implied that it's difficult for a powerful untrained jedi to control a husk of a person with no emotional development in their lives?

None of the stormtroopers in the original trilogy were clones, only the prequels
>>
>>63737611
Is it public knowledge that Vader had returned? He died right after consolidating with Luke. Maybe Luke kept it a secret for whatever reason. I think the propaganda machine the Empire undoubtedly has will have kept it a secret. Of course that leads to the assumption that Luke killed both the Emperor and Vader in one battle, but that's easier to defend than the Empire's main Sith guy being converted to the other side

I really don't get it either, I didn't clap because it's dumb but people for some reason do it for big movies like this even though there's nobody to recieve that applause

it's like it's so ingrained in culture that you applaud after a performance that people do it out of habit at a movie without questioning why. It's almost like a sheep thing (not even trying to sound edgy, usually it's one person who awkwardly starts clapping and after a couple seconds other people join in)

>>
>>63740715
In ye olden times (now maybe non-canon), a lightsaber is constructed by a force sensitive because it needs the force to function. A force user imparts his power to a crystal which is at the heart of the hilt. There's also a lens and a power source needed.

>>63740715
>how can a saber catch Force Lightning?
Possibly because of what I stated above.

I think it's because most people view the force as a set of specific video game like powers, rather than the flowing, binding, moldable force it's supposed to be. They're upset because she "learned a power" that she didn't know.
>>
>>63740886
>>63739632
Of course not, that was all in EU which has been completely disavowed.
Despite being not canon, in Jedi Knight he was successfully training new jedi without many problems, accepting that dark side jedi would inevitably come from it instead of touching a droid and fucking off to nowhere because of one fucking person going to the dark side.
>>
>>63737611
>Also, to be honest, the only scene I really liked that was anywhere near close to A New Hope was the final scene with Luke and Rey.

I agree. If you think of iconic moments I'm struggling to think of any scenes that will be talked about decades from now the way so many of New Hope's moments were. Also, why did you like Luke and Rey's meeting scene so much?

Yeah this was dumb, it's not like it couldn't have been written out with no effort, too.
Put the "leave with Kylo Ren and bring him to me" scene earlier and just have the Commander swoop in and pick him up.
>>
>>63739116
To be fair not every movie from the series has had a moment like that. From the OT I can think of a few, from the prequels too, but not one per movie per se

Keep in mind this is the first movie of a new trilogy. This is all setup for the real fun

I've never heard people cheer and applaud at movies here in Finland.

And they started clapping like retards at the opening titles, Falcon, Han and Chewie and the end credits. Shit was almost inbearable.
>>
>>63740963

It comes down to how moments in A New Hope make me feel even to this day. They're so emotionally powerful yet simplistic and subtle. The binary sunset scene, for example, I consider possibly the greatest movie scene I've ever seen and I'm not a huge star wars nut. Everything is literally perfect. Whenever I watch the binary sunset scene you can just feel Luke's longing for something more, he just knows there is something more out there, he's convinced himself there has to be more to his life and he's desperately longing for adventure. It's so easy to empathize with him. The scene tells you so much while being extremely minimalistic.

While the last scene this wasn't nearly as good as that scene it was good off of the same concept. Luke's silence and look really ran it home. There are so many things that look could mean and it's a really nice parallel to the binary sunset scene as well. His sadness could be for so many things, perhaps all at once. Sensing that Han has been killed by Kylo, guilt for the destruction of the jedi order. Guilt for abandoning his child who now stood in front of him, fear of training another student and maybe even fear that his own child may die in the coming events. The reluctance to take his lightsaber back is also very powerful.

Apart from that there were no scenes as good as the ANH ones. There was no Luke using the force to destroy the death star, Han's death didn't have anywhere near the impact of Obi's because it served no greater purpose to better aid the protagonist.

I think the first order is the remnants of the empire forces. The galaxy is divided between the republic and the order. Resistance is operating in the the segment controlled by the first order but doesn't have a direct contact with the republic.
>>
>>63741407
If they try to pull a twist out of their ass I will be mad but they haven't done that, it's just plainly obvious.
They need to just have a scene where they acknowledge it, and acknowledge that everyone else has known it since the beginning.
>>
>>63740863
Resistance = Rebellion = Republic

After the empire was destroyed, the rebels took over power again and restored the Republic. But I also don't know why they're called the Resistance when fighting the First Order. Maybe that's because how they taught the Stormtroopers and in their propaganda, to make them seem to be a small hopeless group of guearrillas
