People always talk about how they rightfully pretended the prequels didn't exist but I don't think they did completely ignore them.
I feel that Kylo Ren is very much a prequel inspired character. He's essentially Anakin but instead of trying to make you like and sympathize with him you're supposed to hate him. I feel like someone was like "man, people really fucking hated Anakin, seems like a pretty easy villain for this new movie."

After reading the leaks, any interest I had in seeing it died. A blatant A New Hope rehash, devoid of any originality. It's obvious Rey is going to be Luke's daughter, only Luke made her with the Force (which goes back to that conversation Sheev had with Anakin about being able to do that), which is why she was able to beat Kylo despite her having no training. It had a ton of cool imaginative stuff in it, but:

The characters would be fine if the script didn't try to rush them through the plot and funnel them into "REMEMBER THIS THING FROM THE ORIGINAL?" moments. Rey's backstory was showing promise, but it kind of came and went as it pleased. It would have been interesting if she had been REALLY obsessed on going back home, or if her decision to stop waiting for her parents had been more cathartic.
I hope they got as many references out of their way in this movie to do something interesting with the next one, but I don't know. People thought the same would happen with Star Trek: Into Darkness.
I loved it too, but the biggest thing holding it back was that there was nothing really iconic in the movie. Nothing I can see being remembered for decades. No "I am your father", no trench run, no award ceremony, no twin sunset moment, all that kind of stuff. What TFA did well, it did really fucking well, it just lacked any really unique, memorable, star wars-ish moments that will be remembered for years.
Also, apart from any returning themes, John Williams' score was pretty forgettable, which is pretty damn disappointing...

I liked the movie but a few things really bugged me out
like all weird usages of hyperspace.
In episode 4 it's clearly stated that you got to calculate the jump very carefully to not end up inside a star or smashed into a planet and here they just go "lol just start the jump from inside the hangar" and "lol let's just drop hyperspace right on the fucking surface of the planet"
basically it was just used to do "cool" things rather than actually make sense.
the giant death star sort of bugged me a bit but then it sort of made sense after they explained that the beams go through hyperspace themselves.
Still it makes no sense that it just depletes the star, what then? do they just hyperspace the whole planet somewhere else like zonama sekot or whatever it was called did?

And besides the major generic plot descriptions like 'rebels figure out the plan to stop the death star' and 'death star blows up' most of the execution is different and there are a lot more new scenes and events that don't have an ANH parallel
