Honestly I got a massive Hayden Christiansen vibe. It was like they took the controlling irrational Anakin but made deliberately unlikable instead of accidentally unlikable.

My biggest issue with the movie is the Rey/Kylo fight. Kylo, an incredibly powerful force user should have destroyed her easily, he can stop blaster lasers with the force, can throw people with more power than we've seen from anyone before and even extract memories and shit. He's bigger and stronger than Rey but she managed to half beat him, I get that she's got fighting skills from living alone in the desert for so long and I get that he was injured, but still he should have won fairly easily at their current skill levels. Just smash her against a tree repeatedly with the force...
Fixing this wouldn't have been hard if you made Kylo less amazing with force abilities and his power stems from his rage and lightsaber. Make Rey have developed the strong force powers before the story starts and she manages to beat his raging powerful attacks using force abilities. This way, they can both go off next episode and she has to not only learn more force shit but learn how to fight, and he has to go off and focus less on his lightsaber and more on developing force powers.
It makes so much more sense this way because it gets around Rey a small female, physically over powering him.

Fight was pretty down-to-earth, no silly flips or whatever, because neither of them were actually trained swordfighters. They just swing at each other and block (Rey though thrusts forward a lot which was nice).
Finn nicked Kylo's arm, but Kylo used the crossguard to stab Finn in the arm then lacerates his back and KOs him, then Rey manages to chop Kylo's limbs then slashes his face and sends him down. Then they're separated by the not-Death Star collapsing and Hux recovers Kylo offscreen for some proper training.

If Star Wars was all I had access to as a child in terms of sci-fi I probably would become one of those crazy fanboys, but thankfully I had access to anime from very early on in my youth years that my mental balance is very stable.
Seriously, if you have watched Akira, you'd realize just how sophisticated anime is and it blows away anything Star Wars would have to offer.
A lot of people mention Ghost In The Shell, which has just enough of sexuality in the mix to draw in the western audience I suppose but I must say that Ghost In The Shell is not even in my top 10 anime, not even close, that's just how deep the world of anime is.
Some anime is so disturbingly mature like Fractale that I wish it would challenge the system and submit it as a Drama category in the Oscars just to bitchslap the snotty Academy.
It's not just the level of maturity and sophistication anime has, it's also quite original, entertaining, and visually fantastic. I would regard anime as the highest form of cinema art-form.
But hey, me preaching about anime won't do you any good, you gotta go out and see it for yourself just how much you are missing.
The recent one I would recommend to check out is Sword Art Online which is light and easy to get into anime for the first time yet appreciate it as much, but if you want the heavy stuff right off the line check out Guilty Crown in which the plot is so complex and twisted that you'll need extra oxygen pumped into your brain in order to comprehend everything, and if you want amazing visuals and a gripping drama that also has awesome mecha battles Aldnoah.Zero is the shit.

yfw this movie would be better if the role of Finn was the female supporting role/ new Leia, Rey was an attractive white male, and Boyega played a secondary supporting role, that started out as a friend/ apprentice of Han.
Feeling like shit for losing his son, Han took Boyega under his wing. It shows a sign of hidden emotion that Han projected.
The Finn character being recast as a female would be much more interesting and show that the first order was also using females in their general ranks. They could also have an easy token female ve female beating the shit out of each other fight if she conflicted with phasma.
