A lot of people mention Ghost In The Shell, which has just enough of sexuality in the mix to draw in the western audience I suppose but I must say that Ghost In The Shell is not even in my top 10 anime, not even close, that's just how deep the world of anime is.
Some anime is so disturbingly mature like Fractale that I wish it would challenge the system and submit it as a Drama category in the Oscars just to bitchslap the snotty Academy.
It's not just the level of maturity and sophistication anime has, it's also quite original, entertaining, and visually fantastic. I would regard anime as the highest form of cinema art-form.
But hey, me preaching about anime won't do you any good, you gotta go out and see it for yourself just how much you are missing.
The recent one I would recommend to check out is Sword Art Online which is light and easy to get into anime for the first time yet appreciate it as much, but if you want the heavy stuff right off the line check out Guilty Crown in which the plot is so complex and twisted that you'll need extra oxygen pumped into your brain in order to comprehend everything, and if you want amazing visuals and a gripping drama that also has awesome mecha battles Aldnoah.Zero is the shit.

I'd love to be proven wrong and get a classic Star Wars film. But is there a shred of evidence to suggest it will be a classic?
The trailer? There were some neat shots, but lots of shitty films had exciting trailers. Phantom Menace immediately springs to mind.
The writers? JJ has never written a truly great script. I'd argue the closest he came was the breddy gud script for "Regarding Henry", but that was flukey and happened decades ago.
Kasdan wrote two classic films, Empire and Raiders, but he's been in deep freeze (or a Big Chill, as it were) for decades. The last project he worked on was a Diane Keaton weepy flop called "Darling Companion".
The director? Again, JJ has done nothing new, inventive, or enduring in his career. His films have a fun pace and lots of kinetic energy, but they're merely above average for an action director. He doesn't seem to have the genius eye of Spielberg or the imagination of young Lucas.
All in all, you're basing your prediction on nothing more than hope. Which is okay I guess, because I'm hoping too... But I don't expect anything other than a nostalgic, fast-paced romp through the Star Wars universe.
If you're hoping for the magic discovery of A New Hope or the spiritual depth of Empire, I'm afraid you're likely to be disappointed.
Just go in hoping for fun, which is what I'm hoping we get after the dreary death march that was the prequel era.

For the first 2/3rds I thought the movie was fucking great. By the end that had dropped to just being good. They built up the audience to hate Kylo then gave us the satisfaction of seeing him defeated too quickly. It seemed pointless.
My only other complaints are Rey's character on a whole being flat and seemingly too powerful (although this will get cleared up in the next movie I imagine), and the pacing in general. So much happened in the first 30 minutes and none of it had room to breathe. They showed us so little of the space battle with Poe, as well.
But overall it is a good movie despite a few problems. I'm just disappointed because with a bit more work it could have been a great movie.

If this wasn't 4chan, we could have a civil discussion about this, and it'd be awesome.
Kylo did lose way too quickly, and the first thirty minutes were effectively crammed to the point that "none of it had room to breathe".
But yeah, it wasn't perfect. Small things could've been done, true. Not all of it was beleivable (Phasma [AKA Brienne of Tarth] just cooperating).
I'd like to think that they did go full jew and did anticipate a huge viewing, and compressing the first part, giving just the essentials, and letting it build on the more "important" (if I can call it that). Glad the movie didn't last three and a half hours.
I feel they balanced out nostalgia pretty well. They had enough, and not too much. The end in my opinion was just perfect. It's a three part series, and like Darth Vader announcing his true relation to Luke, it's supposed to get you talking, hyped for the next movie. If it was a standalone, i'd be happy with rey just heading off into the sunset, Spaghetti Western style.

I think the problem people are having is that she seems to learn it all so quickly. She goes from 0 to 100 really quick.
She was probably at Luke's academy as a kid which explains some of the force powers. But in the vision she looked really quite young when she got left on Jakku, which then raises more questions about why she is so skilled with a saber and capable of mind tricks.
